Good day, my name is 5olly.

I'm a gardener (actually a Patio-ist) an allotmenteer and a blogger.

I've probably been reading the cottagesmallholder blog for longer than I care to mention, and although this is my first time posting to the forum, I've been successfully annoying both Fiona and Danny either by email or twitter for what seems to be many years!

To be frank, I consider this site to be the premium resource for both vodka and pork belly recipes. It's also (possibly) the reason I grow so many perennial vegetables.

So yeah, say hello. Maybe we could have a cuppa. 🙂

If you fancy looking, my blog is here

Yes, a welcome from me too. I have been reading your blog for a while (since reading a comment on Fiona's blog). I like that recent recipe for rhubarb marmalade, not only good on toast, but useful for a sauce with duck or fish, I would think.smile  I shall try it when I get off this Harcombe Diet that a few of us are following.

I hope you enjoy the forum as much as Fiona's great blog.

Buon giorno (about the only words of Italian I can remember from my school days....apart from parmigiano, zabaglione and asti spumante......and a rude word our Italian student teacher taught us big_laugh).

I drink decaff, thank you, with Lactofree milk and no sugar or biscuits laugh

Hi Terrier!

I'm a Patioist as I have no garden to speak of at home. It's a new word I invented and I'm sticking to it!

Hello Hattie.

It's a really good recipe and well worth a go. If you already have rhubarb then it's worthwhile making some. We're still eating marmalade from last year. It keeps really well.

Well Danny.. what can I say?

Quite alot of other stuff precedes me as well. My beer belly being one of them!

Wotcha Aly.

My name is pronounced as if the '5' is an 'S', so Solly. Not that it's my real name. My real name is Tarquin McNuggetmund. 😉

Bonjourno Sooliz!

I don't know any Italian. And like you, I loathe celery, unless it's in a stew!

Thankyou all for your welcomes!

Tarquin

Welcome Tarquin....

You will note that there is no flag flying over my place just along the coast road from you...I'm currently resident in Bulgaria.  Have you got one of those allotments on Rottingdean Beacon?  Beautiful driftwood sculptures to be seen there!!  The allotment waiting list is a bit like the waiting for a beach hut then...you wait for people to die to get  either in the south.

Well keep up the good work pestering Danny.  He loves it and it does take the pressure off the rest of us.

Enjoyed your blog and I'm only on first year rhubarb so if it survives the winter I'll have a go at your recipe next year...

Aha, 5olly, now, according to the Urban dictionary, there are some suggestions as to the meaning of Solly:

1. supposedly originated somewhere in Ireland in ancient times when a young bearded man drank a pint of beer and it gave him the speed and strength to kill and man and woe any women.
also it was said that Solly had uncanny speed, was a world class beer drinker, and had a gift interrupting the path of objects in flight.

2. An effeminate and camp male who stands with his arm at funny angles. Often gets work near docks attracting sailors.

3. nasty, disgusting, gross.

Sorry 5olly sorry, couldn't resist - just a little bit of fun big_laugh   big_laugh   big_laugh , but then I have been given the initial of BS occasionally - say no more!! wink

Bizarrely Brightspark I think you'll find that any entries on Urban Dictionary about Solly are actually entries written by friends of mine...

I'm quite renowned for my drinking skills and I used to be a lifeboatman so regularly hung around the docks.. Mainly waiting for the idiot sailors to sink.. I'm not so sure about the Irish bit, but there is plenty of the Scots in me. Ooh err!
