Thanks for that Ruthie, not sure that I could fit a workbench in my small apartment but will investigate options.

I used to do a lot of different things but I seem to spend almost all my time on line nowadays.  I need a push up the *** to get me started.  I have embroidery, crochet, knitting, patchwork and painting on the go but can't put my heart into any of it at the moment.

I'll give you a push if you'll give me a kick big_laugh Try half an hour of something and see how it goes.

Thats the trouble with creative stuff though isn't it? We have to be in the right frame of mind. I go down through levels of amount of creative effort needed. Top of the list is carving, so thats first to get dropped sadly. Bottom of the list is card making but that gets done when needed. In between are all sorts of things. Card weaving, a belt half done. Scrapbooking, soul cards, generally messing with images. In the past I've made and sold gemstone jewelry starting from a lump of rock, cutting and polishing and setting it. That led to silversmithing. Then pewter photo frames embossed with celtic knots. I machine knitted for the whole extended family for years, and made all my children's clothes until they begged me to stop.confused

Ruthie - like you, I don't think I can list all the things that are going on in my crafts atm - there are too many. Too true - the mood has to be right, but I keep learning new things, and they become the 'thing' of the moment...... oh well, can't win them all!

But thats the fun of it and the reason why we're neither bored nor boring!

I was told when I was little, "if someone else can do it you can too." and "if you don't know how to do something, nows the time to learn." When I wanted a guinea pig hutch I was told "there's some scrap wood, you know where the saw and the nails are." I was allowed to struggle all day then my dad came out and made what I'd done good and showed me how to finish it. It was a good lesson.

I was going to keep out of the subject of secret embroidery projects, but between you and me...  No, no, no, I'm not going to be drawn into the speculation! big_laugh

Getting back to embroidery - whistle - do you use a frame, TA, and do you make any bigger things, no, not knickers, but wall-hangings/pictures or somesuch?

I sometimes use a frame Val but not always.  Always do small work, I have no ambition to make anything to put on walls, I just like to embellish some clothes or small purses etc.

I'll try that again!

Has anyone made home-made paper? I have the mould and deckle, and have attempted this in the past, and now someone has given me some silk noil, in particular to make some special paper.

Trouble is, I haven't a clue how to doh , anyone any suggestions?

That sounds lovely, TA. ok

I saw a picture in an old French magazine, and it showed a lovely cushion, with the French equivalent of 'Let's just sit and chat for a while' embroidered across it - I thought it was a lovely sentiment. smile
