Hello everyone, my name is Tracy, I'm from California but currently travelling in Europe. I'm trying to make plans for when I get back and would certainly like to live in a sustainable environment, far away from city life. Just signed up to read a bit about all this. Thanks in advance!

Hi Tracy

I am from England but now live in Northern France. I too escaped the rat race and now live a simple life, almost self sufficient in a very rural old farmhouse. We run Gites to give us an income.

Hope you find a place to start your self sufficient journey. I find many blogs by Americans that inspire me to try new things. There are loads of you doing what you plan!

Thanks everyone! Is there any thread on housing around the forum? My French friends found a beautiful country house on this website http://www.immobilier-france.fr/ and would like to ask if anyone knows something similar for California! It basically compiles all the ads from different sites in one place. Thanks

Hi Tracy and welcome - whereabouts are you travelling?  I assume you're going back to California eventually?

No I don't think there's anything on this forum about housing (finding somewhere to live, I guess you're asking), sorry.  We live in a very rural, and lovely, part of south west England, on farmland....we found our home quite by chance through a conversation husband had with one of his workmates.  We'd been looking for somewhere suitable for what we wanted for ages, but had found nothing, then this place just kind of fell into our laps.

I hope you find what you're looking for.
