From JoannaS: "Sounds a bit daft me saying hello after we have actually talked, but welcome to the Forum.  We are all a bit mad here, but I think you will fit in just fine.
So looking forward to your visit  ( and mine!!!! )"

Hi Joanna,

I apologies to you and the rest of the CSH folks. This has been a tough for me. I do not know if Michelle has mentioned I was in a car accident on 30 April. I was unhurt and the folks in the other vehicle are uninjured as well. My poor car was damaged. It took the insurance company a week to determine it was a total loss. Another two weeks to sort this mess out, pay me, and buy another car.

On top of it, I am taking classes to complete my Bachelor's degree. The two weeks I have been wrapping a 300-level Intermediate Composition class. This week I started a 400-level Advanced Editing and Feature Writing class. Plus, my dear wife was gone for 20 days, came home for seven days, and just left yesterday for, at least, another 20 days if not more. Did I mention I work too?

Ugh, anyway, I am sorry I have not responded to you and the other kind folks here. I will try harder.

Kindest regards,

Dan

JoannaS actually said: Welcome indeed to the forum Dan , but what is this about your reluctance to visit Latvia?  Unfortunately I shall not see you in September as no doubt I shall be up to my ears in counting pig holes and mapping the said holes " at least that is the plan so far.

DanTastic really means to say: Ok, I am really embarrased. My last reply was for Danuta. I apologize to Joanna S. JoannaS, here is my reply to you:

Hi Joanna,

Thank you! No reluctance for Latvia, honest! I was amazed that my boss let me scrapped together two weeks in the UK with a major project beginning to roll out. If Michelle and I had more time and more of the greenbacks we would stay longer in Europe and see everyone. I have a funny feeling depending on the adoption stuff we will be visiting more. I do not when but I have a strong feeling this will not be our only trip.

Oh my, it sounds like you have a great deal of work in September. Michelle and I will be thinking of you when we visit the rest of the crew.

Warm regards,

Dan

Hi Danuta,

I really meant to send the first message addressed for JoannaS to you. I am sorry about the confusion. Just so darn excited to have a few minutes to hop on here and post a few messages. So, back again due to Dan going copy and paste happy, my actual message to you:

Hi Danuta,

I hope that clears things up and puts my responses back on track with both you and Joanna.

Cheers,

Thank you, ep!

Nice to meet you! I hope all is well in Bulgaria. There is no doubt in mind that "they hold their own" here on CSH.

Take care from one 'lad' in America to another 'lad' in Bulgaria.

Welkomen!

I'm very sad that i probably won't catch you on your trip to the UK.

My step dad is a steam rail buff though, so if you're in the Somerset area at all do let me know, I'm sure he'd be delighted to take you on the west somerset steam railway, he's got life membership of the preservation society there. Though, if it's going to be mid to late september he might be away at sea.

I can ask him for some contact details if you like, see if he can set you up with nice trip or something?

Hi Rae Mond,

Michelle and I are sad we will miss you on our trip to the UK. Oh, that is great your step dad is a steam rail buff. I need to check with Michelle to determine if we will be in the vicinity of Somerset. I will definitely in contact with you if we are. Thank you so much! You are too kind smile

Best regards,

Dan

Hi Dan! wave

I can feel slightly smug smug at this stage since I have already met you and am looking forward to seeing you and Michelle again in September.

You should definitely go to the train museum in York! Michelle could go along, or she could find lots of other things to do in York, which is a fascinating place.

We will do the South Devon Railway here, and P will leave many hours of railway viewing on his computer...eeek

Hi Barbara!

My apologies in my delayed response to you and the rest of the crew here on CSH. If you read my last reply to Danuta, not the first one where I accidentally called her JoannaS (sorry, Danuta and Joanna), you will see why I have been away from a bit.

Michelle and I are so looking forward to seeing you! I am bummed that John will be in Australia. Somehow we have to catch up with him again either on your home turf or ours smile

I believe Michelle and I will be hanging out with Janet. Please do not hold me to this but I think the plan (last time I checked it was still this way), we were going to the train museum in York. I figure I can always be left to my own devices in York if Michelle would like to do something else. I cannot speak for her but we shall see what happens.

I know Michelle and I are looking forward to riding the South Devon Railway. I have the links you sent along to me. I just need to check it out and decide what day to ride the train. Do you think it would be best to buy the tickets ahead of time or when we get there?

Thank you for everything!

See you soon enough!

Dan

I fully understand about only having two weeks, I lived in America for two years and you should have heard the furore of my hubby taking 3 weeks off when we went back to the UK. Folks didn't seem to understand that to visit people properly you have to spend more than two hours with them - a cultural thing I think. He even took one of the weeks off as unpaid leave, but we found out that was not the done thing in the US of A. doh The holidays and attitude to working ensured we weren't hanging around, loved the time there but decided that enough was enough when the Danish company hubby was working for was sold to an American company.

As for working and doing a course, respect to you Sir! I only have a small job to do of around 6 hours a week and doing my course takes up the rest of the time. Hopefully soon I shall find out if I have got a post-graduate diploma in Managing Sustainable Rural Development.

Anyway, when you have the time and the money we look forward to seeing you in Latvia. May is the best time of the year to come, no mosquitoes and often warm enough and no 3ft of snow to navigate. cheers

Hi Dan wave No need to get the train tickets for the South Devon Railway ahead of time. (I keep wanting to use RR as an abreviation, but it doesn't work for railway. Sometimes I use it anyway.) Somerset is the next county north of Devon--next time you come smile you and P can do a tour of steam railways and include the West Somerset.

Referring back to photographing trains--there should be no problems, except maybe in London where tourists get hassled for photographing policemen or buildings at times. eeek When I was coming back from Leeds a couple of months ago there were a couple of geeky men on the platform at Wakefield Westgate station, taking down train numbers. Train spotters are pretty common here, and train photographers. There are various well-known (to the likes of P, not me big_laugh) places to take good photos of trains.

I suspect that Michelle could do the York RR museum in a third of the time you would need, maybe only a quarter. But there are lots of other wonderful things that Janet could show her that you'd miss out on...big_laugh big_laugh eeek

Now, I must ask Michelle what she wants to see when you visit. wave

There's a lovely quilt museum....joke

There is obviously tons to do in York and nerer the time you'll have to give me some ideas guys...we could always dump dan at the rail museum and go and do something else, or we could do the tour with him, doing what Mike does to me in Ikea..keep walkign on ahead and looking back impatiently.....
