Hi There, I am Simon French and I live in Reading, Berkshire, UK.

I live for good food and good drink, and love cooking, especially for others.

I am very much an experimental  cook. Recipes are for guidance only 🙂 and need to have a personal touch.

I like pretty much anything from stews and casseroles, traditional  roasts etc, to exotic curries. I usually go for heavy flavours but I can do subtle.

As you may have seen from my first post, I have been experimenting  with a home made smoker, more there later.

You may notice various forum names. G6ZTZ is my Radio amateur (Ham) callsign. I have been licensed since May 1983. Sumprat is a self appointed nickname. After caving with my Venture Scouts, many years ago, it was commented that I looked like a drowned rat, after emerging from a sump, hence Sump Rat, although you could pronounce it Sum Prat Wink

Cheers,

Simon

Hello Simon, and welcome - I lived just outside Reading (23 years) till five years ago, and now in Wiltshire - whenever I go back to Reading, the traffic drives me potty - especially the A33/M4 roadworks - phew, let's not go there!

Steam

Simon, for avatar help go to 'Forum', then scroll down to the bottom of the threads, till you find 'How to and Help' - you will find avatar help on there, from Danny.

best wishes, and good luck sumprat!!

Hi and welcome Simon!  Thanks for letting us know something about yourself.  I guessed your screen name would be a Radio code.  I can't remember how to upload avatars but will have a look and let you know if I can find a way to do it.  If not, we'll have to have Danny take a look at it for you.

I'll try that again!

Well, I just had a look at my profile and I won't be able to change my avatar either since the square is, like yours greyed out. Hmph!

I'll try that again!

Thanks for the Avatar tips (shame this one isn't in 3D).

I have uploaded one to Gravatar, lets see if it works.

Good stuff, Simon. Practice and experimentation are the key elements (you have to love cooking to start with).

Re cooking for others: I firmly believe that amateurcooking (us lot) for guests is at the forefront of performance art. You live or die by the subjective views of others. Just like a stand-up comedian!

Crikey - i am in pontifical mood this evening Confused

Everywhere is a long way from N. Bucks, especially S.Bucks ( where I am). No decent roads connect the two. Really daft county Bucks.

Kateuk makes things at http://www.etsy.com/shop/finkstuff and sometimes she does this too http://www54paintings.blogspot.com/ and also this http://finkstuff.weebly.com/

TA, does Danny know where you really live - a few weeks ago, he thought it was Wales (the water company issue) .. Confused ?
