Hi there,

My name is Dee and I live in Powys in Wales. Moved here at Christmas last last year. To say it's been a rapid learning curve is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

I have Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Chickens, Guinea fowl, a pony, 2 calfs and 2 little Alpacas, indoor I have 2 dogs and a cat.

I am learning all the time and hope to pick your brains if neccessary. I will try to offer some helpful tips(assuming my brain is in gear)

Nice to meet you all.

Dee

I'll try that again!

Welcome, Dee, and great to have you on board.

If you moved to Powys recently, then where did you originally come from?

Hello my name is Danny I am 37 , I have been married to my wife Thomasina for 17yrs and have two children Jack 12 and Rowan 10.

We live in Sussex with our 2 spaniels , 3 cats and a ten month old labrador pup.

I try my hand at growing veggies and soft fruit and am quite successful . I am in the process of arranging the purchase of chickens (ex battery) as I have just built the chicken house and run ( after much nagging) from Rowan my daugter.....

I came across the site after looking for a marrow rum recipe last year and am now a regular follower.

Keep chasing the dream Danny and Fiona and we as well as all theothers here shall chase it with you...Wink

Welcome Danton from Latvia. We have been growing veg for years but now we are going to scale up and hopefully get lots of fruit bushes in autumn, we missed the timing to get them in this year. Pint

Hi everyone,

My name is Joe, and I'm in Christchurch, New Zealand. I'm 28 and have just bought a house with a huge section that includes a 700sq metre orchard thingy - it has cherries, apples, boysenberries, nectarines, oranges, lemons, mandarins, black and red currants, a strawberry patch. I first found this site when I just didn't know what to do with all my fruit. I work in logistics and freight but trained in math and then in herbalism. I grow all my own herbs both medicinal and culinary. My best friend who shares my house is vegan so I'm always on the lookout for new recipes for things that I can cook for the both of us - and I would love to share these with others  🙂

Hi, Joe, and welcome on board. Sounds like you have an ideal yard for instant fruit and maybe, with a bit of back-breaking ground-breaking Frown you might be able to convert some for veggies. We need more vegan info, recipes and tips on this site. Done well, a tasty vegan dish would be very welcome on or table to help wean us off our alpha carnivore habits.

Hi, I'm Tracy, Originally from Lancashire, but emigated to Nova Scotia in Canada in 2008. Have been reading this blog since 2007.  We now live on an old farm which ceased to be operational in 1988. We have 20 acres of pasture and 200 acres of woodland. We plan to start the farm again and run it sustainably. We have spent this year renovating the house, which hadn't been lived in for twenty years either and plan to start outside next year. Due to work not being completed yet, we don't have internet at home yet, so blog viewing is severely restricted at present!

What a fantastic challenge, Tracy. A long way from home too! Surprised

It's great to think that you have been visiting this site since 2007. Thank you. Welcome to the forum.

I would love a few acres of woodland, never mind 200! What type of woodland is it? Do you guys plan to convert some of it for different agri uses?

Your adventure warrants a blog of your own once you get regular Internet access, although I doubt if you will have much spare time for the foreseaable future! Please do keep us posted with your plans, triumphs and tribulations.

I'll try that again!

Hello! I've been lurking on Fiona's site for at least few years - found it after chasing up recipes for elderflower champagne 🙂

I'm Canadian, but I've lived in the UK for over 13 years, 6 of them in Kent. No room for a garden, but my partner and I do loads of foraging and we make wine out of anything and everything!

When we're not actively brewing, we're usually cooking, eating, drinking, or hanging out with our adopted greyhound, Humphrey.

Ooh another Lancastrian who has flitted, I was born in Blackpool and lived in Chorley as a child. So welcome TraceyMagic

Welcome Grapecat too, I love elderflower champagne as well, not that I shall be making any now as it is an invasive species here in Latvia so not a good idea to grow it I think - shame. Still have enough other options to have a go at.

Hi Dantom welcome to the forum Wine

Good luck with your chickens I couldn't do without mine. They are such fun.

Welcome Clematisgirl/Tracy

Your life sounds amazing. Houses left unoccupied deteriorate very fast so you must have had to do loads of work.

Hello grapecat

Welcome to the forum! Anything made with elderflowers tastes and smells divine!
