Hi, been reading this site for some time, so I thought it would be a good idea to join the Forum, I'm retired in a small village in central Brittany in France, very quiet ( the way I like it), getting towards the end of doing the house up and the garden (about an acre) was a real mess when we moved in, but have got a veggie plot etc up and running. My main hobby is the weather ( not been good as yet this year) so I run my own weather station and post to the internet 24/7 as my other main hobby is computers.

Anyway I try to grow as much food as I can, Oh yes I have one chicken called Matilda and when I'm in the garden she follows me around like a lap dog, also she's the best thing for slugs.

Make my own wine (have two apple trees, quince and a 60 year old cherry tree)

Not sure what else to say other than Hello all.

A big welcome to you Tascar!  Sounds like an ideal life you have there in France, I wonder if it is?  Do tell more about your weather station, it is something that interests me a lot.Wine

I'll try that again!

Hi Toffeeapple, The weather station is a Oregon wireless WMR968, the data is uploaded to the internet every few seconds 24/7,this data can be viewed at the link below for the web site I host here, also has the history etc for the station.

slow and quiet here, just the way we like it (don't do rush), but plenty to keep me busy in the garden.

Let me know what you think of the weather station, had it for 6 years but only moved to this house 2 years ago.

I think you're right, Shelley, and welcome Tascar.

We drove home through France on Saturday, and it remained at 0 degrees all the way to Calais (from just north of Bordeaux)!

Tascar, did you mean to leave a link?

We have had the same, Tascar, when we first arrived at our French house, the garden was so overgrown with brambles etc, that we had no idea we would discover two animal houses beneath the brambles - one little pigsty and one henhouse, complete with roosting boxes in the back wall.

The link Brightspark is above not below Tascar's post for some reason, or click on the world icon next to greyed out dot which is next to the icon "quote"

Thanks for that JoannaS, placed the link at the bottom of the reply but for some reason it placed it where IT wanted even after 3 edits.

So if you want a link to my web site look at my profile it's in there.

Yes it's been cold up here in Brittany, not anywhere as nice as down south, just in the process of rebuilding our shed, as it was flattened by the snow we had loads of snow at the start of Jan this year, got most of it up but still need the roof on, will post some pics some where.

Hi Tascar, I've just been looking at your weather site and it is quite different from the one I look at regularly which is quite near where I live.  Here's a link:

I'll try that again!

Hi Toffeeapple,

Not sure where I'm going with this but have a few questions,

  1. Do you  like my site?
  2. If not what do you think I should change.
  3. Do you like all the adverts on the site you look at that is near you?
  • I thought this forum was about Keeping costs down to a minimum, from what I can see he pays £3.99 a month to host the web site and has loads of adverts to try to regain the cost.
  • I have no adverts host the site myself and have other interests as well.
  • Think???  when you look at my web site you are in my living room, not on a server some where in CA where they are taking your money, Thought this site was about taking control of you life, My PC is my TV, at night when the adverts are on we switch to the PC  to check things out e-mail etc, growing your own veggie plot is great as I do but there are too many other things where people try to take away from you your good work to help them not you.

Sorry gone off on one there but I'm sick and tired of the world and state saying I have to pay this and that, when if you really look at it YOU DON'T.

Hi Tascar no need to apologize. Yes I like your site although the fonts are a little small so have to put my specs on to read it.  Are the pictures at the top right some that you have taken?  It would be interesting if you were to have weekly changes in the photos.

As for the Ampthill chap paying for his site, he is not a member of this forum so I don't know what his feelings are about that.  As for the adverts on his site, I don't even notice them, I just use it to gauge what my local weather might be.

I'll try that again!

Hi Toffeeapple thanks for the comments and will have a look at the font sizes, yes I take all my own photo's, the one in the header is of the back of the house and the others where taken over last spring and summer, like the idea of changing them, may look into a photo page when I get time. Many thanks.

Glad to be of service! Wink  I shall look forward to seeing your changing pictures, especially if they are of your countryside and any wildlife you might spot.  If you can change the font size I'd be very grateful.Ok

I'll try that again!
