made a flyer today for my estate and will be sending it out this week.  This week I have increased my potential profit by 200 euros; not bad and if I could sell that a week, I would be very happy!

The website is being worked on by a friend this week and we are going to work on it more together next weekend! I am very excited by this as I am fairly certain no-one else in Toulouse does this!

Without a doubt, flyers are a great first start in marketing. I used them a lot in the past when promoting businesses that I was involved with. I used to "do" entire car parks and several streets in a single long afternoon. It will be even better when you have your web site and you cant print your URL on them. Although it is a fact that promotion of a web site in the printed media is proven not to work well at all, um as are curious are more likely to explore your online offerings.

Good stuff, Shelley welldone

I agree with JoannaS that there must be a more cost effective way of presenting things.  It may be a good time to plan and collect the packaging for your Xmas gifts now.  Baskets look lovely but if you can't get them in bulk, or inexpensively, how about trying something quick and homemade from recycled packaging (rather than putting them into those yellow bags for recycling).

Different shapes or sizes, covered in a bit of unusual wrapping or parcel paper or material remnant and filled with a pillow of shredded paper or other recyled material.  I know you want to put your money and time in producing your best jammie product but you could have a bit of arty fun in the presentation.  You never know, your husband may have a flair for it for the "quiet" days.  The French consumer seems very forgiving with enthusiastic decorating skills.

Maybe, Shelley, either you, or a friend, might run up some simple sackloth/hessian/whatever miniature shopping bags.  Stick to a simple pattern which involves a straightforward, quick, line of stitching, run up on a sewing machine.  Stick a couple of jars inside, decorate with a bow/swirl/tag on the handle. ( I'd offer to make the bags for you but the cost of postage in France might not make it viable).

You can't lose really as the French love giving that kind of edible gift, don't they!  Market your products as ethical or recycled or just plain handmade and handcrafted.

Bon Chance, Shelley,  I'm sure it will be hugely satisfying.

That would be wonderful Shelley, I shall keep my fingers crossed that it continues to improve.  I'm getting so excited about your web-site!

I'll try that again!

Hi Shelley - following on from lilythepink, Jenny, I think the idea of making mini-bags is a good one, and also getting yourself a logo/motif(?blossom?) - perhaps to iron-on to your bags (especially if you use a fabric like curtain lining or slightly stiffer cotton material - sackcloth and hessian would be better-looking, but not sure of the cost) like:

S h e l l e y ' - perhaps with a nicer font to make it stand out - and then you can iron-on before assembling. Or, make them into tags to have hanging from the handle of the bags, or on elastic around the rim of the jar.

Speculate to accumulate .....

Good Luck to you Shelley,

phew sewing!! not sure if I can but will look into it!

The site and business is called Maison Michèle  (my real name is actually Michèle spelled like that too! -and since the move to France I have used it, as Shelley Dennerly is just a nightmare for the french to pronounce!!)

I am working on a logo but will come back to you when i am further on!

Thx for all your support

I bet it's even worse for the Chinese!

That's a really nice logo design, Shelley. Top notch. Simple and very distinctive. It certainly stands out from the crowd and is both memorable and instantly recognisable.

I think we all may be in a The Birth Of An Empire here ok
