Perhaps the term "book" is misleading but there are many recipes and useful methods buried and lost in threads on this forum. It would be a shame to lose them forever.

We are calling out for volunteers (i.e. slave labour!) to help find them and organise the links into a useful index that we can then easily update day by day.

We will assign a forum, or a number of topics to each volunteer. The ideal timescale is to have it done over the next 10 days or so. Say by Sunday evening June 20th.

Please sign up below if you feel you can devote a few hours to this task. Your reward will be a freebie voucher for something or other at next year's get together or for something online if you cannot make it.

New members, or visitors who have not yet registered: this is a nice way of joining in and contributing in a really useful task.

Notes for volunteers:

How to compile your list of links to posts for recipes and useful tips

Open a Notepad (or similar text editor tool) file for your list.

As you find a post that you want to include, you need to do two things:

1 – Type in the name you think it should have (e.g. Raspberry jam recipe or Method for perfect boiled eggs)

2 – On the next line, copy and paste the link to the post. You will find that by clicking on the little button above the post that has a chain link graphic. If you hover your mouse pointer over the button you should see this text appearing "Permalink to this post".

Highlight the link, copy it (press Ctrl and C or right-click after highlighting it and click Copy), then click on Close and paste it into your Notepad file. Then Save your Notepad file every time or you risk losing your work.

Leave a blank line after each link to make it easy to read.

Your list should look like this (I have changed cottagesmallholder.com to csh.com to avoid inserting a long raw link that might muck up people's browsers. Your links should have the proper cottagesmallholder.com bit included.

Banana wine recipe

http://www.csh.com/forum/drinks/banana-wine/#p3876

Spare ribs recipe

http://www.csh.com/forum/main-course/ham-shanks/#p4720

When you have finished email it to me as an attachment to danny [AT] cottagesmallholder [DOT] com

Hi Danny, I actually started doing this a few weeks ago, back in the UK (not in France currently, unfortunately) – and if my memory serves correctly, it was starting at the very beginning (Starters & Snacks), followed by Main Course.

However, there is one question: some people have posted a complete recipe; others have given a link; others have given a vague reference to what they've cooked – i.e. not a full and complete recipe as such.

so, question is – how would you like it collated?

That's a very good point, Val.

If we opt for complete recipes only then it may be too restrictive and would exclude some excellent ones like your own baked mutton, Shereen's roast chicken thighs and Cookie Girl's weightbusters' trifle (plus loads more)

What would you think of adding a simple tag at the end of the description?

Recipe (this is the full monty where weights, volumes, temperatures have been listed)

Dish (where the ingredients and method are described in a few paragraphs)

Idea (everything else - a post, or a post containing an external link, that a reader could usefully adapt).

For example, Baked Mutton Dish would describe your one.

Pam's Banana Wine post is classified as a Recipe : Banana Wine Recipe

So, is Danuta better off not doing the Starters and Snacks forum - and how far had you got through the Mains? Thank you very much, BTW, for taking the time and trouble to kick it off yourself BrightSparklyStuff

I feel that I should have a part in this but, with my bad memory, I wonder how useful I'd be.

I'll try that again!

I would love to help but sadly my time is very restricted at the mo with business setting up and hubby working away etc.

If no one else signs up though let me know and I could maybe be an assistant to someone?

That is not a problem, Toffeeapple and Shelley, and everybody else - there really is no expectation being placed on anybody to do this.

Honestly.

No need whatsoever to apologise.

You all do enough just by participating in this forum.

We want the volunteers to be people who really can afford to spend a few hours on this librarian chore (cue all our Virgo readers! ) - By the way, Fiona and I are both Virgos Ok the cream of the crop 'r' us Virgos Big_Hug Roll_Eyes

Not just yet for sure but maybe in a few weeks when things calm down, will see how far you have got by then.

Aha - TA - maybe that is why you fitted in so well from the off.

Mine is Aug-28, F's is Sep 14 Wave

No problem, Joanna - this is a medium term project (not life or death, and not required by tomorrow) and we will also need helpers to update the eventual index on a daily basis, maybe for 2 or 3 days at a time for each helper. Just like real, honest-to-God shift work Confused

Thanks, MOS. I have a few people in mind who could benefit from a friendly and gentle tap on the cranium by your medicinal 2LB lump hammer.

Names and addresses may be supplied in due course! Big_Laugh

Thanks for volunteering for duty. Ok We may call upon you in the future for bits and bobs.Eeek

Hi Danny - sorry for the delay in responding - collected more guests (son and friends) from the airport last night, and delivered others (daughter and family) this morning - busy schedule atm.

From memory (not that good these daysSteam ), It may be better for someone to start on the Main Course again - not a problem if there is a doubling up at this point. But, if Danuta has already done a fair bit on something - I really don't have a problem with her continuing - or perhaps we can share notes!!!!

I have to be honest - with all our guests coming and going, I'm not going to have too much time available till I'm back in the UK. This current group go back on Sunday, and another lot arrive next week.

Once Starters are finished, then I'll contact you to start on the next forum in the list.

good luck .....
