I stumbled across this initiative only today and, at first glance, I am impressed by what it offers.

Getting British Business Online

You can get your own .co.uk domain name (like http://www.cottagesmallholder.co.uk) and free web space with loads of pertinent advice, help and tips.

I think you have nothing at all to lose by giving it a shot if you are in a position to sell some sort of product or service. You do not get a better price than Free Of Charge.

The scheme is run in conjunction with Google, so perhaps Google may want to show ads or something. I am not sure. It does say that "ads will not be displayed without your permission" so maybe there is a profit sharing element. Regardless of ads, go and get your web site set up. You have nothing to lose IMO.

Just my own tip if you are choosing a domain name. If you are selling crafts (say cross-stitch, for example) it makes sense to name your domain something like cross-stitch-by-mos.co.uk rather than heytherebuymyzanygear.co.uk)

Anyway, I am just putting it out there. The offer ends Dec 31st so you can consider it over the Christmas holidays.

Never knowingly underfed

It sounds like quite a good deal. Since it's free for two years, it looks like a good way of setting up a first website. The built in on-line payments sounds a great idea and is essential for any on-line business. It can be frustrating when a website describes products without giving an easy way of buying them...
