Danny can you move this to a better place if necessary; didn't know where to put it!

I recently discovered this organisation and thought I'd recommend it to this forum.  Basically you offer food and lodging to travellers from all over the world , in return they will work for up to 6 hours a day, 5 days a week on your land/home.  This can take the form of anything from cooking, cleaning, gardening, farming diy etc.

Those travellers who haven't been friendly or useful are flagged up, so they can be avoided and everyone has a short history of themselves and the skills they might be able to offer.

I can see that there are costs involved and lots of potential downsides bit there also seem to be a lot of pluses

For more information go to http://www.helpx.net

Shelley, that is a great site for mobile people. Excellent. Thanks for that.

I think we will leave it in this forum but I will change the topic title to make it a bit more explanatory.

thanks Danny
We are now registered as hosts and have already had 2 enquiries re stays chez nous despite being on a housing estate and not really the archetypal french dream!
So should get the painting jobs that have been ignored for the past year done very soon!

Hmmm. Shelley, you may well have a real painter and her apprentice apply to stay for a week or so. Laugh

We have never been to Toulouse. Do you like dogs (like 3 small but yappy dogs? SurprisedEmbarassed )

Hi Shelley

I think that this is a great idea.

We swapped a holiday in Alderney for decorating a friend's hall landing and stairs. We worked in the morning and were free in the afternoon. Perfect.

I'd love to try this myself but we don't have a spare bedroom ATM Frown

Perhaps it would be a good investment to sleep on the sofa Smile

In the summer people seem to have their own camper vans and /or tents ; if you surf the site you can see them everywhere; so this might be the solution for you; for us it isn't as the local Mairie has forbidden tents/caravans on our estate!

I thought of you when I posted this as you are ill at the moment and might need a free hand!

His French (language) is terrible Smile

Generally he's a daemon for languages especially Spanish and Italian. In France we get by on my schoolgirl French which is always 'interesting'.

Thanks, Shelley - that invitation is really sweet of you. I think a simple fee of one bottle of fruit grog per night of stay is a very fair exchange. Then Andy and I can converse unintelligibly in French. But we would totally understand one another.

Hi there

unfortunately our first helpx did not go well; the guy was horizontally lazy and took advantage of every moment I was not there to surf the net.  He managed to do about 2 hours of work during the 2 days he was here and probably created around that in the mess he left everywhere.  Unfortunately I then had the tricky task of asking him to leave; not easy!!

Oh well; I am sure there are more honest people out there!!
