Guaranteed whoosh material big_laugh

First of all please accept our apologies for the short notice of this scheduled maintenance window. We have just been informed by our transit suppliers that they will be performing a required firmware update to the multiplexers spanning the main fiber links between London and Cheltenham.

The maintenance window is scheduled for this weekend at the following time:

Start Date: 12th May 2012 @ 22:00
End Date: 13th May 2012 @ 06:00

During the above window, some clients may experience brief outages while the multiplexers are updated.

Once again, we apologize for the short notice which unfortunately was out of our hands. This is a semi-urgent update to correct a number of software related bugs within the DWDM equipment to ensure smooth operation.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this matter.

Oh, ta roll_eyeseeek

So, I'm guessing that most likely means the door will be locked overnight....?

(that reminds me that my mother used to tell me that if I wasn't home by 11.00 pm weeknights/12.00 weekends, then she would bolt the door.  Quite how she rationalised that I must be home by a certain time else I wouldn't be safe, otherwise she'd force me to stay out all night, was totally beyond me.  I just didn't bother going home! whistle)

It reminds me of the time that I arrive home 'early' and mother was at the top of the stairs and asked me what time I called this...so I looked at my watch and told her......not a wise move....confusedconfused

It never rains but it pours.

This post could equally fit well in our Rants topic.

On Sunday, our UK hosting company sold the business to a US outfit. Normally that would mean business as usual but not on this occasion. The new owners are moving all customers to their own infrastructure " choice of US locations or Luxembourg.

Obviously we chose Europe. Now we have 36 hours to configure the new server and shift everything.

It's high handed to say the least.

There will be a period when the site may be unavailable for some until the new address filters through all the nameservers (think telephone directories) across the globe. These translate cottagesmallholder.com into the ip address 98.127.254.136 or whatever our server will be allocated. How quickly you see the new location depends on the settings in your own ISP's nameservers.

I will make the switch late in the evening so that disruption is minimsed. Not sure yet if it will be Wed or Thu night.

Updates here when the time comes but I will let you know well in advance.

Keep smiling Danny and gently bite your bottom lip whilst counting 1 to 10 and stroking a Min Pin. big_hug

Giving only 36 hours notice is very poor practise, very un-professional.

What would happen if you were on a week or two holiday.

Good luck.  ok

So I guess if we can't get in for a day or so or three, we just have to be patient and not jump up and down and assume we've been booted out lol.  Goodness Danny, you are having problems, bless you big_hug.  Thanks for letting us know.

Basically they are unplugging the wires and plugging in new ones is how I read  the message at the top of this thread.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

You poor man, you really don't need this!  big_hug

It is not a good piece of news so I suggest that we all repair to FB if we can't get in here.  Fingers crossed that it won't come to that but you never know.

I'll try that again!

Stay of execution.

Due with increasingly popular demand, we have made the decision to resume services to the UK but at a new facility we are currently awaiting hardware to be shipped to the facility in Maidenhead. We should have a batch of new servers online in the new UK facility within the next 48 hours.

I bet customers were either threatening to leave in droves or the notion of moving sites to a Luxembourg facility was in breach of contract.

Anyway, it will be the weekend before anything happens.
