Bless you, Danuta big_hugbig_laugh

Well, I don't possess any 'Apple' gizmos (apples aren't allowed on my diet winkbig_laughbig_laugh) so I do use an ordinary touch screen mobile phone.  The screen is the full length of my phone though, not the little half bit at the top, so I don't know whether that counts for anything, being the technophobe that I am!

But, to be fair, I only rarely use my phone to access the forum.....only if we're away from home and I don't have my laptop with me.

So if Danny chooses to ignore me, I guess I'll just have to live with it......crybig_laugh

Sue, you made my day! big_laugh

Maybe we can make a special exception for a Suefone (must surely come in shocking pink with a blonde protective cover)  smile

Anyway, I have removed the mobile phone option from the site.

Danny, I bought my current phone from ebay, I was actually bidding first on a PINK one (how did you know?? surprised) but was outbid in the last few seconds cry

Pink does happen to be one of my favourite colours (I'm such a cliche aren't I embarassedbig_laugh)

Oh, and I've just tried accessing the forum on my mobile.......and I can still get it, despite you saying you'd turned off the mobile phone option - how does that work, then? confused  (But ta anyway!!!! kisslaugh)

Sue, I only turned off the "special" mobile device detection system that presented a different layout to mobile device users. It did not appear to be very popular anyhow.

So now you should see the same layout as on your laptop or PC. It will not fit into small mobile phone screens very well.

Ah, I see, thank you Danny.  I do have to scroll a bit (sideways and up and down) to see everything on my phone screen, and increase the print size, but it's all good fun!! wink

Good feedback. Thanks, Sue.

Catering for mobile device users is the big broohaha of 2011/2012 but I wonder if it is just all a load of nonsense.

The mobile analysis stats that I referred to earlier also showed that those mobile users only read one page (or probably did not) compared with the average of two pages for all users.

I think they did not like the layout that we were showing them and just buggered off immediately.

I must admit Danny, when looking at the site on my phone, I generally only check the possibly 2 or 3 posts/forums that really interest me, rather than looking at them all as I do when on my lappy or desktop.  That's because it is a bit of a faff on my phone, not nearly as effortless, and I just can't be bothered to be honest! embarassed

I tried using my kindle to access the site when I was away, and the mobile version wouldn't let me see any posts--it told me there were new ones, directed me to the page, and refused to let me see them. That was even more frustrating than using the normal version! big_laugh   So I used daughter's netbook when I was pemitted to big_laugh big_laugh and am glad to be home on my laptop.

Sounds like you joined the club then, Barbara!

I am working on a new theme (layout) for the site because the old one is over six years old now and lacks some handy features that newer ones have.

It is also what's called "responsive" in that it should reshape the site for smaller screens - a little at least. But the main article should be easier to see.

As an Admin, I can see it in action as I tweak it. It should be ready tomorrow (Sun).

Oooooh, exciting! (I think, hehe).  Will the site have to go down at all, Danny?  And will it just be ready to go, so to speak, without us having to make any adjustments or doing anything ourselves?  (please say yes!! *she says in an anxious pleading voice*)

I didn't get the new layout finished on Sunday. I broke it somehow and had to start over to find my mistake. Believe it or not, there is one code file in Wordpress where you cannot have any blank lines. Took me a while to find that out (thank you, Google).

So I went through it with a fine tooth comb. Still threw an error. The problem was a single space at the end of the last line of code. steam

Anyway, I will chip away at it in the evenings and hopefully put it in place at the weekend.

Apologies if whoosh (and we know who we mean!) wink big_laugh
