I wanted you to see these amazing portraits, by Jo Hamilton, created in crochet. Within this page you can find a fascinating video, which is an entertaining work of art in itself plus a link to the artist's website.

waveHi Sue, no I  woke up very, very early & was looking for something else on the laptop & got waylaid by the crochet portraits. Eventually I went back to bed & slept until later than usual. It was the rain last night that woke me & for once it didn't depress me. However the sky is a very unpleasant yellowish grey this morning & it is obviously a lot colder as my heating has come on again.

Very clever stuff but, as Aly says, creepy too.  I don't know any of the people she re-creates either, I might have been more impressed if I could have made a comparison I think.

I'll try that again!

They are incredible, it is true, but how on earth do you begin on something like this?

As you say, Toni, it is difficult to compare when you don't know the person who is pictured, but they are quite remarkable.  ok

One of them, John Hoke, was a Director of Nike - and looking at Google images, it is a very good likeness.

Just make your absence felt"

Quite amazing. I think one thing I have learnt from an artist who came to fabric art is not to use the colours you would think of when doing details on faces and I see the same thing with these crochet pictures. Still amazes me how you can use green and purple in a face and not just flesh colours and that improves the picture.cheers
