Do you think finger-less gloves might work so that they could still scratch for their food…

I had a package sent from England today containing all the things we couldn't bring back on the plane and a few extra things too – it kind of grew over time. Nestled in the package though was two books
Welcoming home baby: in a handcrafted way by Tricia Drake
and
The baby knits book by Debbie Bliss
I think I need to get up to speed on the old knitting front. Although there are no babies on the way yet, my daughter-in-law is dropping hints of what she likes

I found this really interesting knitting site in the USA….. I first found it due to this project of making a new bathmat out of old sheets. I think it is beautiful & would cost me nothing as I have large needles in my old Sylko cabinet in the barn, the pattern is free to down-load & I have a pile of old sheets that I had saved to use as dust sheets when redecorating…….I am a real cheapskate as well as a hoarder !!

I thought these were fascinating

Have a good poke around the site as it is packed with lovely unusual stuff, including knitted jewelry & a felted dog collar (I will post the link to this on the felting topic).

Will go onto main computer so I can get the pattern. I was unsure when I read your post about how it would look but was pleasantly surprised. A great idea for the Gites. By the way I have downloaded a few things from the knit picky site you mentioned and love that too. I am always looking for different projects, all the spare time I have to fill!

Thinking about you, Aly, I remembered making some little 'elfin' bootees, each from a single square, which would be easy-knit for your grandsons. I can't find the pattern as it was some while ago, but it is very simple.
Knit a square 'in the diagonal', i.e. ** start off with one stitch and increase one stitch on every row until the triangle you've knitted is of the right size, and then continue decreasing one stitch on every row until the ending, of one stitch again. Cast off.
** Leave a thread at start and finish, in order to sew the seams.
Fold the square diagonally meeting both threads together. Using one thread, sew all along to the end. With the second thread, sew halfway up the other side, and secure.
Fold over the unsewn portion, turning it 'inside out' onto the upper part.
Et voila – an elfin bootee!!
If only I could find the pattern to illustrate this ….
Will do some more research!

While doing some research, I came across these incredibly pretty wristwarmers.
On Ravelry.
So simple, yet so attractive.
Guess what I'll be making for presents later in the year. (Won't mention the word!)

Oh I love them, they're so nice Val, they remind me of Victorian ladies . I get extremely cold wrists and hands, I've got fingerless gloves but find them too restricting….I can't type very well in them, for instance.
I see there seems to be a crochet option too (I can't knit) – haven't looked at the pattern yet, hope it's not too fiddley, I have trouble doing anything but the most basic stitches and can't follow complicated patterns

Those are so pretty but My fingerless gloves are more practical, they are easy to type in as the yarn is very fine ( it has a filament of real silver in it, which keeps your temperature stable). I think I found them via a Renauds site. Try this link

They also do socks & vests !!

What an excellent site Hattie, I am wanting silver pyjamas now but have to wait for the new website to open on May 26th. Last year when I managed to gouge a lump out of my forearm, the nurse packed it with a silver dressing and now you'd hardly know that I had done anything. It's like magic.
