The Royal Wedding

Tulips Angelique

I was planning to give the Royal Wedding a miss – I was delighted that Prince William had found someone that he clearly loves and trusts. But to sit glued to the telly for the morning – nah!

I woke early for me – couldn’t resist a peek at 8.30 and from then on I was hooked.

Rather scary looking guests in hats and fascinators were intriguing. Some people I recognised some were just interesting to watch. Adjusting their suits and hair. Knowing that they were going to be on telly and not realising that they were already being displayed on TV screens in every continent across the world.

The folding seats looked hugely uncomfortable. Especially for the slimmer guests. Bones rubbing against metal for hours. No wonder so many people were standing beside the seats.

As I’d tuned in so early, I watched quite a few interesting interviews and wondered whether Archbishop Rowan Williams – interviewed the day before – was going to have a haircut.

I was viewing the build-up on my laptop. In bed with the Min Pins (hinting for breakfast) whilst the pugs snored below. I stayed in bed until William and Kate hopped into the landau for the trip back to the palace.

What struck me most about this wedding was that, despite all the pomp and razzmatazz, the marriage ceremony was intimate and touching.  A well matched couple – clearly deeply in love.
It brought a tear to my eye and made me feel very proud to be British.

The monarchy needed someone like Kate to join their ranks. Intelligent, kind and beautiful. Apart from William, I wonder if they realise quite how lucky they are.

I knew I would be watching it from beginning to end and I am so glad I did. I had a slightly surreal moment when the King of Tonga arrived and I thought he was Mohammed al Fayed and was most perplexed!

I thought that it was the most personal and intimate wedding they could have had bearing in mind the size of the congregation and the numbers watching live on television. Catherine looked utterly beautiful and I had several tears in my eyes as her father walked her up the aisle. I wasn’t sure who was holding whose hand for support.

I had my own wobbly moment that evening when we held our own Royal Wedding Reception in the village. The dancer (eldest daughter) was asked to play Catherine. She looked stunning in her borrowed wedding dress and I felt very strange looking at my little girl looking so very poised and grown up!

Not only did I watch the entire event (starting @ 4am in the USA) but continued to watch (while working of course) thruout the day, and day after as it seemed every channel here had replays and different interviews. Considering the HUGE concessions Kate needed to adjust to now and the rest of her life – with the press forever hounding her…. William certainly did the ‘BESTIST’ (I know that is not really a word) by the taking the time slowly but carefully necessary for Kate to ‘somewhat’ understand what she signed up for. A Long, Prosperous, and Loving Life together is my wish for the delightful couple!!!

My hubby had this week off as holiday as it was his birthday on Wednesday so we had the day watching telly in our pj’s. I cried ( of course) and took the welcome opportunity to spit venom at camilla parker horse face home wrecker bowles.
We both commented on how when they all just arrived at the altar with harry talking and wills looking all proud yet embarrassed, the dad looking like he was facing certain death and kate trying to look brave and not self conscious, they just looked’normal’ it could have been any old wedding of just any ordinary people. All standing feeling a bit lost and a bit stupid in clothes they felt a bit silly in! Such a change from how the Royals have always been, detatched and untouchable, these youngsters were far from that. All I can say is their mum would be proud and so was I. Hoping for the future our country will have fresh and young people to bring good things.

Well it was a Big Day for the UK. I tuned in for the ceremony itself to double check that it was all done kosher, like 🙂
Brilliant TV production and the acoustics were spot on, which must have been technically difficult to achieve in such a huge and ancient building.
The bookies were offering 100/1 that Harry would forget the ring (he didn’t).
Isn’t Kate the spitting image of her mum? Her dad looked the most nervous of them all, poor chap. But the couple themselves looked very relaxed and smiled the whole way through.
All in all, a very heart warming occasion. Good luck to the both of them.

Welcome, Megan. Hope you hang around and looking forward to reading more of your comments as time goes by.
