Well this morning he is outside again but he seems as if he is very stiff. I think he probably got pretty bruised internally. He is certainly not as lively as yesterday afternoon; this is what I worried about. I still don't think he is out of danger.

The strange thing is that nearly every hen I have (bar the oldest bantam, aged 8yrs) has laid an egg yesterday. I had 13 eggs. This is weird as I have been getting 3 a day most days. I wonder if it was bought about as a reaction to all that fighting & the disappearance of Caesar; needing to reproduce to survive as a flock ?  I was just so amazed, it will be interesting to see how many I get from now on.

The teenage cockerel is now running after all the hens, amazing how they step up to the plate when the dominant rooster is no longer around.............! big_laugh devil big_laugh The hens are not having it though, they are turning on him & pecking him, seeing him off !  wink

Steady on, you've dispatched one, one is in the sick bay and I think 'stepping up to the plate' is the last thing on his mind¦.I think he's just got the 'urge to merge'¦¦winkwink

I don't think so Elsa, as he is certainly drawing attention to himself......that kind of 'merging' is something the girls are not allowing at the moment..... whistle  devil

What's that about a dripping tap wearing away....you know the rest.....whistlewhistle

You just like the fact that the egg production has increased with all the fear knocking around and you don't want them to be 'harem hens' do you....???big_laughbig_laugh

OK, so now he is looking better again & has eaten & drank for the first time today, instead of just standing around. He did allow me to give his face a wipe with barely warm water to get more of the dried blood off his feathers.

Today I only collected 4 eggs which is fine with me, especially after yesterday's 13, which was weird.

It is nearly time to shut them all up for the night, there is a pink sunset tonight, very pretty but it is fairly cloudy.

OK, Antony is looking very perky this morning. He jumped straight off his perch the moment I opened the door to the girls & came straight out to the food & started eating, then followed me down to the other coop for that food too. He also had a good crow to say hello to the older girls (who live in that house). He (or his girly friends) had obviously given him a good grooming as his feathers were looking all smooth & fluffed up. His comb is nearly perfect again & it all red & healthy looking; he was also eyeing up the ladies, now his eyes are properly open once more.

Oh, it is such a relief he has recovered....I can't tell you how upset I was all weekend. I was so tempted to bring him inside but I know that is seldom the thing to do....they need their own around them.

Thank you for your support & best wishes...it meant a lot.  kiss
