Oh thank you Fiono. I hoped it would be useful to someone, not much use to me but then I don't have a problem with whether the authorities will let me keep chickens out here in rural Latvia, the problem is me getting organised to get some.
It is indeed great to be able to overcome bureaucracy and petty rules. I was heartened to find in America that even if the all poweful housing associations forbid the hanging out of washing as they believe it lowers the tone of the neighbourhood, federal law had been passed which over-ruled those petty laws
Kind of on the same topic, another blog I read (I am such a two-timer! Sorry!) "Little House in the Suburbs" are really into backyard chickens, and they put together a "commonly asked questions" pdf that you can print and hand out to neighbors. You probably have to change a little phrasing for different situations, but its a handy tool to have at the ready.
