Our tiny cockerel Baby, has done something to one of his legs. I noticed he was hobbling this evening. Recently I've spotted he stays well out of the way of the rest of the flock and only feeds and drinks at dusk returning to the ark to sleep alone.
I picked him up to examine his leg and claw which seemed not to be broken. He's very tame and closed his eyes as I gently cuddled him.
So if he's not better tomorrow I'll take him to the vet. When Lightning died I swore that I would try not to get too fond of my chickens. But this little fellow has stolen my heart.
This morning I examined him carefully in full daylight. He's happy to lie on his back like a baby in my arms. I noticed that he had an infected cut on his leg and claw. So I sprayed and cleaned them with antiseptic every couple of hours and did some healing on him. By dusk he's still limping but much less than yesterday.
Needless to say he's loving the attention. His sister Zebedee was really interested in me in doctor mode and ended up standing on my head to get a better view
Awww, what a cutie, piccies please!!
It is hard to not feel attatched to animals when you feed and look after them day and night! My OH keeps talking about duck and christmas, but when I go and feed the ducks in the morning and they look at me so trustingly, I think we may have a vegetarian xmas!! Perhaps it's a woman nurture thing??
