can anyone help me?

I recently bought what I thought were 2 speckled sussex hens to add to my little flock (very pretty with lovely markings) in a charity chicken auction.  So far they have not laid and are now 'squaring up to each other' at frequent intervals, they will actually run the whole length of the area they are in and go chest to chest, ocassionally the feet are raised as if in a fight.

Is is possible that my 20 week old 'hens' are in fact young cockerels?  They do not crow and do not have large combs or wattlesConfused  How can I tell?

Hi Lady Penelope

Hens fight too but it's less usual than cockerels. I think your best option is to look at photos of your 'Hens' on the internet - Ideally search for 20 week old photos and then you will have a good idea of the differences between hens and cockerels for this specific breed.
