And the lovely thing is they make a little tinkly noise, chatting among themselves.
Seth noticed this evening that the starling flock went over, and just one bird peeled off and went straight to the gap and into the airbrick of my bedroom. The nestlings drive me mad with their noise, and we tend to think of starlings as raucous, but the other evening, I happened to be near when this one was singing a little bedtime song, and it was as sweet as a songthrush, and so quiet.
Shut up, I'm counting
It was really lovely - I felt privileged. The sad thng is that Seth has lost some of his hearing so that he doesn't hear the high notes like birdsong any more.
