Rather than buy a kindle, just download Amazon kindle for PC and register then take advantage of the free books. I've just downloaded Sherlock Holmes as a tester and it looks fine.
Once downloaded and installed,you will need to register the reader with an Amazon account (if you have not already got an account create one), then look for books marked 0.00 in the shop.

Well I'm b*ggered...I tried it out but it is for UK customers only...must have picked up that I am in BG...they didn't do that when I purchase a £100 gift voucher from them at Christmas....sorry you can't but one...you're not in the UK......

Strange ep as I managed to download the Kindle here in Latvia, it was the Mac version though
There seem to be quite a lot of decent free books available - I'll have to take a look, after downloading the mac version of the kindle reader...

We are having a bit of a palaver in our house, it would seem that Firefox works better at getting around Amazon's reluctance to download books - despite the fact they are supposed to be free on the web anyway due to being uploaded by volunteers, also some email accounts work better than others. Got there in the end both I and hubby have now been able to download some books . Now just need some time to read them.
