The Cottage Smallholder

Thanks guys - was at work during the day but OH took me out for dinner, which was lovely.  We had a bit of blip when we tried to get a taxi to get home and were told they'd stopped running because of the heavy snow - I wasn't really dressed warmly enough for a 2 mile walk home in heavy snow and my boots weren't the sort I'd want to be wearing for that trek, but one of the restaurant staff got his car out and drove us home!  How's that for excellent service?

We were surprised as we didn't think it was that bad, but just down the road in Wakefield it's still so bad today that our friends who were supposed to be coming for dinner tonight didn't dare risk getting their car out and so won't be making it.  But then our Volvo has winter tyres on, so we are probably better off than most people!

Oh indeed, Joanna.  I went out shopping yesterday morning (we had friends coming for dinner but they cried off as they couldn't get their car - a mid-life crisis mid-engine sports car - down the hill where they live, nothing was getting up or down it yesterday) and was utterly amazed at the pathetic performances of people in car parks, wheel-spinning, skidding, or driving so slowly they were causing tailbacks onto the main roads - I was never taught to drive in bad weather, I seem to have just picked it up, and my other half learned to drive during a really bad snowy winter so he had a head start, so we were fine.
