Hummmm.... I wonder how that works? haven't got any so can't try it.

As for being special, I reckon its the rest of them thats special. I'm blown away by their kindness.

Back on the ginger tea now, with a very drippy nose.

All right Ruthie, here is my tried and true cold cure.

You probably know a little about my job, I have to travel to do my job and I have a very tight timeline, so I can't be sick, period.

So, when I start feeling that feeling, I go find a Chinese Resturand and get the biggest container of Hot and Sour soup they will give me. I take that back to my hotel room and I eat it in a nice hot bath.

In the morning I'm fine.

I'm sure you could modify it to be veg friendly, there is usually some ground pork, but there is also lots of tofu too.

Sounds like lots of fun, good luck!big_hug

Thanks Michelle! Interesting, yesterday evening I had a strange desire to eat food that was spicy and vinegary. I try to listen to what my body tells me so ended up with sweet chilli pickled eggs, sweet pickled peppers and roasted cobnut squash which I also tossed in a maple syrup and balsamic vinegar dressing. A bit odd, but it was what I needed. I'll try a variation on the hot and sour recipe this evening. Oh, do I have to eat it in the bath? what_the_heck big_laugh

My son is in a play this week (local drama group) and he is playing the lead for the first time. Bad time to get a sore throat! His solution was to eat extra hot chilli with extra chilli sauce and extra chillies! surprised and possibly steam ! He said it worked very well.

Situation at the moment is drippy nose but not too many sneezes, and bunged up ears. Please go away you nasty little monster!

Zinc is I think the only thing proven to actually shorten a cold but here are some suggestions from the Healthy Fellow who spends his time reading through a lot of medical research to see what is being said about natural remedies. Link here for the cold remedies

Thanks Joanna. Wouldn't you know it, no zinc in my cupboard because I threw it out for being too old. Adding ginseng into my arsenal, though what I've got is siberian.

Now don't you think, that even if all these remedies only have a placebo effect, that with all of them combined it ought to see off the dreaded monster ?

Bleugh. At the moment the cold is doing better than me. cry

I've yet to make the hot and sour soup though, and have a hot bath (while eating the soup?) and have an early night with Rae's suggestion of drowning the dreaded monster in alchohol.

I'm thinking about inhaling steam with tea tree oil as well.

I'll update you in the morning, I'm not being picked up until eleven because I couldn't get a sitter until then anyway. If we've found a cure for the common cold we'll be famous and fabulously rich! big_laugh

Just try and get a good nights sleep and see what tomorrow brings...you've done your best.....big_hug  and take plenty of tissues with you.....which reminded me of a song that I was sent:

If my nose was filled with money then I'd blow it all on you....

and the punchline.

But it's not......roll_eyesroll_eyes  (work it out)

big_hug  Have a wonderful day even if you have to appoligise....to the assembled crew...

Well, I suppose not, but I don't guarantee the outcome then!

Well we did it! After a slug of night nurse I slept a solid six hours and woke at five. AND I HAVEN'T SNEEZED YET!!!

Thank you everyone for a marvelous group effort. welldone

I can't say I feel well, but if I'm not sneezing I can safely hold hands within the circle. I shall take wet wipes for between dance clean ups, and I'll swig a ginger, honey and rosehip syrup concoction to keep me going. I think with the addition of cold capsules I shall survive the day. smile

And yes, I did eat the hot and sour soup in the bath. I wasn't taking any chances! big_laugh

Hi Ruth, what amazing friends you have, I do so much hope you enjoy the day without dripping on too many people.

I know this is too late, but last night I was so tired I was falling asleep as I typed, so have signed on this morning for a quick check on you all.

Friars Baslam - steam inhalation is good for congestion (blocked ears), but if you've never used it,it smells awful.

A friend swears by a spoonfull of vinegar (any type) a day to keep colds away

I'm one for the zinc, & vitamin c every day and I rarely suffer from colds - apart from last week, but then it cleared up in a couple of days.

One of the ladies I garden for (ex-nurse) says I should have some yoghurt every day to fight off infection
