You've certainly started early this year Kate.  I hope that you, Sir and MOS recover soon, we can't have that kind of virus running through the forums.

No certainly not, if I am going to do any snivelling at my son's wedding it has to be because I am emotional and not because I have a cold eeek

Has anyone eaten Quinoa?  I know it's supposed to be healthy but the look of it when cooked turns my stomach.  I'd be interested to know if anyone likes it.

I've never cooked it successfully myself, but I've bought it out a few times and it's been pleasant enough. I'd rather have cous-cous though. Quinoa can be a little slimey.

But did you like it?

I don't remember disliking it... I think it was ok as an alternative to our usual carbs, which tend to be rice and pasta. (I realise this thread has wandered away from quinoa ages ago but I was away over the weekend at another of those country shows again - helping out in the Hamster tent. Rained most of the bl**dy time. We were going to pitch a tent and stay overnight but changed our minds and drove home saturday night and back again yesterday morning. It usually takes me a day or so to catch up with the forum when I've been away.)

Hi Joanna - a bit late catching up, but I hope the wedding was a Great Success, whatevva the wevva.

Flu and bugs - got myself in a Hot Toddy dilemma - rosehip syrup v. blackcurrent brandy?  Finally put the 2 together and boy, was it good.  Got into bed, took a big swig, and Zonk!  Out like a light for an hour.  Perfect.  My only problem now is, that was the last of the blackcurrent brandy, so no repeats available.  It looked pretty too - the BCB floated on top of the RHS until I added the water - just like one of them fancy cocktails.

Gone crazy. Back soon.

Is it too late for you to get more blackberries to make a new batch?

I'll try that again!

Blackcurrants, not blackberries - and I've got a new batch on the go, but only just done, so won't be ready until well into next year, unfortunately.  However, I'm thinking of trying FN's bramble whiskey recipe, which I believe should only stand for 3 months. But that's still a very long time when you're thirsty.medicinelaugh

My cold came and went in one week, not down to the blackcurrents, blackberries or black anything else.  Mainly down to the hot toddies.....and what a hot one Tod (is)....Seriously though...there seems quite a lot of it around and goodness knows what brought mine on.  So now my guest have all departed for the UK so now I am back on my own again and wow is that a relief.....I think it's just down to pleasing oneself and just to keep on topic....whether they are little or large....OK TAkisskiss

Normally a quick drop of snow arrives in October, November that soon disappears until December and that's when I normally arrive in the UK and last year to....snow....

As for the hard stuff....secreted away and on the 7 year old brandy to move the cold or the joints......missed you lot...guests just seem to get in the way=.

We are using the still next week on the cherry wine...wine is crap...distilled it should be fine...I'll let you knowkisskiss

A bit of a quinoa update. We tried a new recipe this week, based on this one: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2577/spicy-vege.....inoa-laksa

We added some sliced chicken breast and used fresh veg (leek, courgette, pepper) instead of frozen, and added a couple of chopped chillies too. We liked it. I don't know whether the quinoa counts as a portion of veg but the web page claims the recipe is 3 of the daily portions so it might do.
