Make your own bacon. It's easy and delicious and is much cheaper than buying bacon. And you don't need special equipment.
Go on you won't be disappointed
No choice here in Latvia as the stuff they sell here is not what I would call bacon. I don't always use the right cut of meat as trying to decide where "stilbe" and "karbonade" are from is beyond me but they still make something that tastes like bacon so that is fine by me. I suspect that what I should actually get is the belly but if you saw the amount of fat on it you would know why I don't.
I really am going to do this. I have your recipe printed out, just need to go to the charcutier and get the pork. Tomorrow, hopefully!
I once sat for hours on the coast of northern California in the chilly mist waiting for whales. The buggers were on strike that day because I did not see a single sign of them.
Three things I really want to do:
1 - Travel up the US/Canada West Coast in a Winnebago from San Diego to Vancouver Island. I have always wanted to see Washington state, Oregon etc. It appeals to some basic previous life. Maybe call in to visit with Michelle from Oregon en route.
2 - Ski. I longed to go on a skiing holiday as a kid but no way could my folks afford it for a family of five on a country teacher's salary. I never did it in my younger days when I could have done it. Now it is an imperative before arthritis and Alzheimer's set in !
3 - Have an apartment in London that we could drop into for fun weekends in the capital. I no longer want to try living there, as I longed to do a dozen years ago, but just having one available occasionally would be fantastic.
Never knowingly underfed
This year I have done 7 of my big 10, but the highlight of my year was I saw wild dolphins on the moray firth, in July 2009. I shed a few tears. Not the same as making bacon. But when I read the title I thought I would reply.
Fantastic. I often cry for pleasure too. Just wondered if you'd like to share your top ten?
My Mum started skiing again in her 50s and she still likes to go now and she is in her 60s. We have a Nordic cross country ski run at the top of our road that is free to ski on and a downhill ski run but it is only like the nursery slopes of proper skiing places as we don't have mountains here in Latvia. Mind you I don't think it would cost very much to ski here, hotel 33LVLS (£42) a night bed and breakfast, and ski passes I think are about 8LVls (£10). A visit to us free
Love it any one passing me is more than welcome to stay pm me as there is lots of claening to do lol
big party lol im in lol Ps don't ask for sex too much work lol .
Visiting is free but the lodging might not be. Depends on how comfortable folks are with sofa beds. Lol
top ten things to do before I die
1 see wild dolphins
2 see Loch ness
3 See the Highland games.
Above 3 done all in one holiday in July 2009, I planned 2 and 3 to coincide date wise, number 1 was the bonus!
4 visit Egypt
Did this in May 2009, but we only went to a diving area, I needed recouperation (Dr's orders), so I had semi peace and quiet and PB went diving with his buddies all day for 2 weeks. Bliss, just me, the sun and 12 paperbacks.
5 Learn to ride a bike (properly, as in mountain bike)
Did this in September 2009
6 Know who I am
Strange one, but doing my genealogy has brought my family closer. I am naturally bossy, so I have used my bossiness to ORGANISE, my family, to all research a certain person and take pictures of where they lived, were married, collect the death certificates and any church records that would make up a picture of their life. And any press clippings etc that may be releavant. This is an excellent winter hobby. It also feds my need.
7 Fly a helicopter
Did this 3 years ago at Bristol airport
8 Do a tour of New Zealand, Australia and the Far East (this might never happen)
9 Met the Queen (anyone out there know her? I think she would like me, I will bring my own breakfast in my own tupperware)
10 Have a family - maybe. Somedays I like this idea and then I think nah! it is kind of an on off thing. Keeping it real people. Just being honest.
All completely self, nothing to do with saving the environment, having peace in the Middle East. But all things I would really like to do or see. I now need to think of a new first 7 things. So I constantly have 10 things to to do before I die.
So who else will list their 10 things?
as the song say
if you dont have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?
