dont you just love some servers ...i tend to use AOL because thats who we are stuck with due to the fact that our internets so slow most suppliers dont want us , but its so security enabled that theres hosts of things it wont let you access including the PMs on here , today i actually was piddling about in the security settings and managed to unlock most of it , i can now access allsorts including PMs ....so i would like to apologise to everyone who has sent me messages and been ignored , you must all think im a right ignorant old tart , im not honest........ just a little computer baffled sometimes

Well done Kaye!  I would never use AOL after OH's experiences with it.  I'm with Tiscali (now TalkTalk now something else again I think) and I've had very few problems with it other than the monthly fee seems to increase frequently.  Glad you managed to sort it out.

I'll try that again!

aargh aargh aargh    I had rather a tough time yesterday, a difficult meeting in the morning followed in the afternoon by a total cock-up by Asda over a scheduled delivery that never happened due to the driver not being able to find my house & not calling me although he had my number.....doh doh doh.   I was actually sitting beside the telephone because I had requested a call from the driver as he arrived, just a safety precaution as I live alone...I do this with all my supermarket deliveries.

I was incandescent with anger after being lied to several times. This is the second time this has happened.  Every time I rang (through a call-centre in South Africa) I got a different person with a totally different story. Almost the same thing had happened to me about 6 months ago & I hadn't ordered anything from them in the intervening months so I changed my mind this week because of the need of some large bottles of gin & vodka to preserve my plums & apricots. The South African end of it was very helpful & polite but the promised calls from the British manager in charge just did not happen. I ended up by ringing the call-centre & calling off the delivery completely as they were unable to say when they had a free slot. Not that their 2 hr delivery slots mean anything as they have never managed to deliver within the designated time. I have no other problems with other companies finding my home or delivering in time....just Asda. Needless to say I will not be using them again........monster flaming_nora dalek angry

That is so bad, Nadine - I hope you're going to put in an official complaint to the store manager.  Or even the chief exec.  They shouldn't be allowed to get away with treating valuable customers like that.

I've had home deliveries lots of times, from Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco (I like to vary my shop occasionally) and I reckon Tesco are far and away the best - they're ALWAYS on time, always text to say when they're coming, and make the fewest substitutions (my last 2 orders from them have had NO substitutions).

How are you getting your shopping now?

wave  Hi Sooliz,

I usually get my weekly shopping from Ocado, this week's deviation was because about 3 or 4 times a year I stock up on household necessities, cleaning materials etc which are often cheaper at Asda. This time I also wanted a large number of bottles of gin, vodka & brandy to preserve my fruit in & they had some good prices.

Yes I will be writing to Asda but I wanted to give myself a day to calm down a bit as I was so furious. So I went into Aylesbury on the bus & stocked up on Sainsbury's cheap booze. It was a market day inthe town & I was delighted to be able to buy Kentish cherries from one of the stallholders¦..I haven't seen those sold in the market for years; it really cheered me up. I love cherries & mine were over weeks ago.

PS: I like using Ocado for most of my deliveries as they are the most reliable in my area & their prices are fairly good except for cleaning & household stuff & booze. They were magnificent in the last two winters & fought their way through the ice & snow & were always on time & very cheerful. smile

I have found the same with ocado Hattie, they have only let me down once in six years and that was because the whole system failed, so they delivered late, but did not cancel - waitrose in Henley are usually really good too, though even they were defeated by weather last year when we had the day when about a foot of snow fell in an hour or so, couldn't get the vans out of the car park...

Now my washing machine has packed up (with wet washing inside it, of course) - just to add to my misery.  Our car (an MPV, which we bought partly because my mother has mobility issues and finds it difficult to get in/out of a normal low car) broke down a month ago and, due to a series of problems, is still not fixed.  Mother is arriving for a visit in 3 days, we have to pick her up from Bristol in a car (cheap old one bought quickly as a replacement so husband could get to work) which she will find uncomfortable and will have tremendous difficulty getting out of (even with us attempting to haul her out).  The toaster was making ominous rattling noises this morning (and the grill on the electric cooker is crap at doing toast, or anything else for that matter).  Oh, and the tv just switched itself off last night (must have been past its bedtime roll_eyes).

Think I'll just stay in bed for the next couple of days.

Thank you both, much appreciated.  A hug can work wonders big_hug

As can husbands (occasionally! wink).  He's now fixed the washing machine, bless him smooch.  Don't know what he did (neither does he!! big_laugh), but at least it's now working again....fingers crossed that it actually finishes the cycle as it should.  I have one more load of washing to do tomorrow, then hopefully none until Mother and Sister go home next Sunday when I'll have the bedding to wash.  So please let it work until after that's done....I don't mind washing stuff in the bath (shorts on and treading it like grapes - well, I have a bad back, I can't lean over the bath now, can I? wink), but wringing it out will be a problem, as I have extremely weak wrists after suffering RSI in them for several years.

Hmm, it's gloomy here (the weather as well as me yell), although it's very hot (or perhaps that's just my hot flushes in overdrive).

If I didn't have a sense of humour (strained though it is) I'd be stark raving mad by now deviltonguemonster

He's a good one, your hubby.  Shame he can't fix your vehicle too.  You are a lot like me, I have a poorly spine and painful, weak wrists too.  Thinking about it, we've lived in the same places as well, perhaps we  were separated at birth? big_laugh

Keep smiling, do!

I'll try that again!

TA, I signed up to Tiscali, in part because I did not want to be with TalkTalk, and now am trying to work out who to switch to since they are now so much worse. It is pretty slow  (that started out as a mistyping, sloe, totally appropriate for this site!) but what I truly hate is the way I sometimes can't get into my email, the marketing pressure, and the general arrogance with which they say they are giving you something free like more phone calls which you had anyway and then put the price up. monster

Does anyone have a provider that works reasonably and is fairly priced?
