We tend to have brandy more in cakes, like you Eileen - it seems to have that Christmassy-thing about it!!

I bought some rum - or what I thought was rum - in France. OH has always enjoyed rum babas, so I had decided to make a large one for his 'birthday cake'. Well, I don't drink, so I didn't know the difference, but it was awful - after all the work of a proper rum baba too . steam

No, Val - not yet.

I have done very little in the way of cooking recently. roll_eyes

On a side note, my sister in Ireland is setting up a little home business, selling frozen uncooked scones.

Using our mum's recipe from 50 years ago. Hers were mouth-wateringly delicious, hot from the oven, slathered with butter and homemade raspberry jam. To die for! chef

She is getting lots of support and mentoring from local enterprise agencies and from a supermarket chain that has a program for budding entrepreneurs. She is at the stage where her prototype packaging has gone to print. All very exciting!
