Tracey, as stick of butter as sold in USA looks like one of our 8oz packs cut in half horizontally like this one.

Try this out.
Still doesn't help with sticks of butter, but useful otherwise since it does the calculation for you and takes the actual ingredient into consideration when converting between cups and weights.
