Possibly an odd question but does anyone have any ideas for using up end of date scones? Could something along the lines of a bread and butter pudding or the spiced bread pudding recipe from Pam on here ages ago work? They are sweet scones with fruit in. 18 of them from Waitrose's basic line that work got for a function and weren't opened. I'd rather they didn't just get chucked so thought I could make something with them tonight then bring it in tomorrow for people to scoff.
Yes, Ruth, fruit scones work really well in Bread & Butter Pudding. I often used to use them up that way when I had my restaurant. Just remember to let the custard & scone mixture stand for an hour or so (even overnight) before putting in the oven to cook. You get a much nicer result if they get very soggy. You may not need so much sugar in the custard if the scones are very sweet.
Good luck.

I hate bread & butter pudding but I have made hundreds & hundreds of them. I have used breads of all sorts, scones (both sweet & savoury), croissants, brioche & stale plain cake. They were one of the most popular desserts in the restaurant. I also made them for my customers to serve at home.

Well due to being hijacked unexpectedly to take some urgent photos for a friends business cards last night I didn't end up making this after all. So if you'd all like to pop down over the weekend I will be serving 'Hattie's old scone pudding a la Ruthdigs' if that suits?? Jump in the
or on the
and aim for Exeter.
