I have had a go at making Diana Henry's vodka pear william.....

Basically, 800ml vodka, half a nutmeg, a william pear and a sliver of shaved orange peel.   In a kilner jar.

Put on a window sill for a month, gently shaking from time to time......

add sugar after a month

SO - I have a problem!   the pear looks rather brown and not pretty - and there is a split in it.

What can I do????   Should I change the pear?

I really don't know, but would have kept it in a dark place, think if it looked that bad, would be inclined to dump it.

I would have kept it in a cupboard also. Depends what you want it for, if for home consumption then that's fine, if gifting it, then I would dump it and start again, but keep in a dark cool cupboard.

Are we having fun yet? I am!
