Thought I'd start up a new thread where we can post details of really good special offers.
We wanted a biggish gammon joint so I went online this morning to check out the best offers - Lidl came out on top with a good offer this week. They're doing 1kg gammon joints, smoked or unsmoked, for £2.59, this week while stocks last.
One of these joints (we bought 2 and put one in the freezer) will do us for several meals. Husband will slice off 2 steaks for us to have grilled with parsley sauce and new potatoes, the rest of the joint will be boiled. He'll then slice up (we have an electric slicer) enough for his work sandwiches for 3 days, and some for me with salad for 3 suppers. There'll be enough left of the joint to dice up and freeze, to be used in quiches or omelette.
And of course the stock from boiling will be frozen for soups.

If you have an Aldi near you, you'll no doubt know they do a Super Six every week - 6 vegetables or fruits at very cheap prices. We did our shopping there this morning, their S/6 this week is caulis, carrots, parsnips, leeks, broccoli and courgettes. I got parsnips and leeks at 19p(!!) per pack, and a pack of 3 courgettes, 2 heads of broccoli plus 2 beautiful large caulis all at 29p each. Amazing!

Don't think that will apply to Aldi here but will have a look anyway. Can always hope!
Trying to enjoy life as it is
Wilkinsons (otherwise known as Wilco) are great! We had never heard of them till we moved Oop North, but they are gradually spreading southwards now. Household goods, garden stuff, toiletries, stationery, etc. and all at very reasonable prices.
We used to pass their big distribution centre when we went to the Sheffield Costco and always gave a little cheer for their usefulness.
Shut up, I'm counting
Yes indeed, Jean, I can spend hours wandering around a Wilko. We have one in Scarborough too. Trouble is I can easily come out of there with something for the kitchen that I didn't really need.
We have an Aldi too but I haven't been in there yet. You know what they say about going to Aldi - you go in for bread and milk and come out with a 2-man tent, a trumpet and a chainsaw!
I think it was their champagne that won an award recently, up against the best of them.
Never knowingly underfed
I rarely go to Aldi - from our house it is an awkward drive - but do often go to Lidl. Between the two of them Roy has gathered a shedful of useful tools - Man Toys - and I do get my proper butter from Lidl. I think I have said before on the Forum, their West Country butter with sea salt is very good. I have been told that their Scandi Lurpak-a-like spreadable is nothing to write home about though!
We're about to be spoiled on the outskirts of Boston - they are building a new Lidl, right next door to a big Tesco, and on the other side is B&Q. Should encourage some petrol saving! And time.
Shut up, I'm counting
I find it very tight for parking in our Aldi so don't go there as often as I would like to. I do like their laundry products, they work well, you don't need as much to do a wash-load and the conditioner is not super-smelly and neither are they expensive. I have yet to find a Lidl here though I have been in them in France.
I'll try that again!
