Found this idea today, and I'm thinking this would be perfect for folks living in apartments or places with a small outdoor area. I'd love to try strawberries!
I go through a lot of white vinager for cleaning, I'm thinking the consept could hold up on a slightly bigger scale…
P.S. Mute the music! You've been warned!
If you can't be a shining example, be a terrible warning!
It's an interesting idea and is similar to the idea of wall mounted flower pouches which some garden centres sell ready planted but which are not as long as this tower. The query I would have with the idea is how effective is it in making sure all of the plants in the tower get the right amount of water - I could see the ones at the bottom not getting enough water especially with thirsty plants like strawberries .
My other thought is will clear plastic be as good as an opaque pot for the roots of a plant.
Overall though the towers look quite effective as a display en mass - for some reason growing veg seems to allow the use of any horrible looking junk, the end justifying the means - even though the concept of piling up used plastic bottles sounds pretty awful. The acid test is going to be whether the crop from this is as good as from a conventional container garden and whether the foliage can cover up the plastic.
What it does demonstrate is that all sorts of weird thins can be used as pots and can look quite good - I have a load of mini beer kegs which some dimwit dumped on the ground at our local recycling area after finding they were too big to fit in to the can container.
