I knew all about this family in California from gardening friends in the US but one of them has just sent me this link. The garden is so beautiful as well as being very productive. It is such a delight I thought I would pass it on to you. Yes, I know a lot of us don't have their mild winter weather etc but.......!!
This second link is to the website for their organisation
I have tried some of their ideas on water saving, using clay pots buried amongt groups of plants & it worked really well. I just wish someone produced those 'ollas' at a reasonable price here in the UK. I have a feeling we might need them this summer with the predicted water shortage here (in the south at least).

All I can say is inspiring! Thank you for that. It is what I am trying to achieve here.

Aly, I thought you would enjoy it. I love to see gardens like that, packed full of produce, animals & flowers. Good luck to you...I hope you make your version.
By the way, do you grow Globe Artichokes? I am going to this year.

Not tried them yet. I am going to need to expand the veggie garden before long as thre is so much I want to try. The idea of growing edibles in conventional beds is good and something I will explore.

I got a local potter to make some cylindrical pots for tubs, with a similar idea to the ollas, and they worked well. They don't have to be perfectly smooth to work, just unglazed and not fired at too high a temperature. The local potter also makes drums from clay so maybe they can make me a more bulbous one to try with the tomatoes this year.
