I have a plum tree in my back garden that fruits like crazy each year, we're soon to be overwhelmed again this year! Ordinarily I bag them up and hand them out to my neighbours and colleagues but a lot still goes to waist on the ground and at the top of the tree so this year I thought I would try and find out if there was anyone who wanted to come and pick them to use in cooking or just to eat themselves.
I went online to start with and found an amazing scheme called SwapCrop. It's a forum set up for people who have a surplus of home grown crops -fruit and veg, that would be happy to see some of it go to people that makes jams and preserves, who will then share what's made with the crop owner.
It's a really great idea and i've signed up for the South West, if anyone's interested.
