The BBC is doing it's Dig In campaign again this year and the new website goes live on 1st March. The free seeds you can apply for this year are:
Blue Lake French bean, Black Beauty courgette, Royal Chantenay Red carrot, Mixed Leaf salad & Sweet Genovese basil.
I assume you apply from the 1st March. Good luck!
Another free seed offer - not live yet but apparently will be in 'the next few days.' This is the site, keep an eye on it I would say.
If anyone else knows of offers add them in!
The second offer, not the bbc one, is now live and you can sign up. Good luck!
Great stuff, Ruth. I had never heard of the BBC Dig In initiative.
Anything for free is certainly worth a shot, especially for first timers.
Never knowingly underfed
RHS have a free pack for the first 10,000 people to pledge to grow their own. Not sure when this went live so they may or may not have reached that target I guess. Worth a try though - especially for any newbies to GYO out there!
Well all mention of freebies has gone from that RHS page now so I guess they have their 10,000. Wonder if any of us dropped lucky?
Remeber BBC Dig In goes live on Monday.

Or was supposed to, still the old site at the moment.
Finally the Dig in site is live - you can sign up for 5 free packs of seeds. Given the extortionate licence fee for the very little I want to watch I'm claiming mine!
I got the free 'Dig In' seeds at the combined Good Food Show/Gardeners World show last summer. Sadly it was too late to actually get anything edible. The leaves on the carrot and beetroot grew to a couple of inches but the roots themselves were miniscule. I did get a squash which grew to about 2-3 inches but then the cold weather killed the plant off before it was ready
I've just sent off the for this years seeds. Fingers crossed, they'll arrive in time to plant, although I really don't think there is room in our tiny garden for more veg. I may need to invest in more pots or troughs to fill all other available surfaces.
Visit my blog for food, drink, photography and hamsters.
Think vertical Bobquail - can you shelf all the walls?
Know what you mean about last year, mine came a little late for things like the carrots as well but I'll use those ones this year.
Good luck to us all!
