Harvesting my second cherry tree on Friday with a saw.  Ten or so years of free growing (neglect ..the previous owners were living in Turkey) allows only birds and  very adventurous small children access to the fruit.  I have discovered two plum trees, a pear tree and something which I do not know how to translate which tastes horrible from the tree but deliicious as a conserve.  Oh, I almost forgot….I have a walnut tree and two grape vines.   How's that grab you MOS!!Whistle

yr just showing off now all i fooound when i cleared my garden was the front wing off a hillman hunter and 2 ton of broken roof tiles MOS

sit down with a cupa and the urge will subside

Showing off...me...I got broken roof tiles as well and lots of preserving jar lids, buried polythene sheeting and lots of single shoes leading me to believe that  the previous owners only had one leg each.  Oh and plastic beer bottles and broken glass but I can't top the Hillman HunterBig_Laugh.  And I wouldn't even try...

I bulk out chutneys with courgettes too and use them in lots of other things as a bulking agent like stews and casseroles. I also use them instead of carrots in carrot cake, this recipe works well but I halve the amount of sugar and a friend of mine doubles the amount of cinnamon.

mmmm gave in and made the sweet option today (excuse being it is my birthday)  and it was delicious; dont have cups and the exchanger I had didnt seem to work, so made it up as a I went along.  I omittted the nuts as I dont really like them in cake.

Thanks Joanna!Chef

I harvested my first bowl of strawberries today - quite a big bowl and the whole lot got demolished for pudding.

Oh Boasty Boasty one Big_Laugh

Lucky you, Rosie. Do please keep us updated on which fruit and veggies ripen at yours so that we can become even more envious when they ripen two months ahead of the UK  Doh

Laugh

Actually most things are really behind this year due to the cold dry spring - I was harvesting strawberries 10 days earlier last year as well as a load of other stuff.  It's Shelley who should really get the early stuff.

yep, I didnt like to say , but despite grotty weather too, I have been picking strawberries for several weeks!

Experimenting with some stuff called slug gone made into pellets from untreated sheeps wool sprinkle evenly round plants water in an hey presto you have a mat that slugs hate and also mulches the plants its biodegradable as well fingers crossed it works as having hard time with slugs SteamCryDoh

Hope that works well fiono let us know how it works. I can probably get hold of sheeps wool fairly easily, the poor sheep farmers don't get much for the wool anyway; we don't have a slug problem but snails we do have and I wonder if we will have more of a problem this year (better to be prepared I think Cheers)

You're welcome. It is pretty easy to make too, especially if you have the cups Big_Hug

Oh dear, must have missed your birthday by now Shelley, but I hope you enjoyed your day. Big_Hug

(I wonder if I should start a birthday list so that I can greet everyone on their special day?)

I'll try that again!
