Hello and welcome, Sue R. I inherited several pear trees in this garden, and they are doing very well this year. I don't know what varieties they are, they don't seem to match any descriptions very well. When to harvest, ummm, just before they drop off??? When you notice wasps on one or two of them???
I know that pears are harvested before they are ripe and ripen in storage, but eating them straight from the tree isn't bad either. I have started harvesting mine, and they are wonderful. I did check that they were easy to pick by lifting them gently, and the ones that came off I picked.
I will be drying some of mine, and pickling some, to keep them for winter use.
