Good for you Aly, but I'm sorry you have a headache.  I hope it goes soon. Only 4 more days to go & then you will have more options. ok

wave I've just finished Day 4 Aly and my headaches have gone.  In fact I really only had one on Day 2.  As the week has gone on, I have felt better and better.  Hope that happens for you too!!  big_hug

Well done for sticking with it. Have woken with a dull headache and longing for a mug of coffee, but after today only another 3 to do which is not so bad. I am hoping I can get rid of coffee forever but may end up just having one with breakfast. I have to say though I have not felt hungry so far.

I can only suggest painkillers...they are your friend the first few days.  After five days we decided to give decaf coffee a go...did not really like it (possibly more to do with the brand than the fact it is decaf) so are back on water today.  I can also recommend Rooibos (redbush) tea - you can drink it black with no sweetener and it is quite good in terms of the minerals it provides (principally magnesium).

I don't find the diet in Phase 1 particularly restrictive so am sticking with it another week.  Mum has lost 2kg and I have lost the 3kg in this Phase.

wave I have been drinking Kenco decaff coffee this week and although I have not particularly enjoyed it I am going to try and stick with it using a little skimmed milk as from tomorrow.  We shall see if I can do it.    whistle

That is brilliant news about the weight loss Rob, both for you and your Mum.  welldone   Hope I can report doing as well at my weigh in tomorrow.

Aly I hope your headache clears up soon. I found by evening on Day 2 that it had almost gone.  big_hug

wave You three are doing so well, despite the headaches & longings for real coffee. Try Taylors decaf gound coffee.....I think it's the best. That will probably be impossible for Aly in France but maybe OH could bring some back with him at the end of his work trip. Their decaf teabags are good too.

Danuta bravo...I am glad you are coping so well & are feeling so much better.

I hope I will soon be strong enough to join you, all sickness etc, etc eeek has stopped but the muscle weekness & occasional dizzyness & mild headache still remain. So I am still taking great care when moving about.  I am still gently breaking myself into the diet with the decaf drinks etc & lots of fresh veg etc. I don't eat any bought meals anyway. I do feel a lot better.

My jeans are already feeling loose! Amazing! Headache much less now so will not take painkillers. Have a basic brown rice risotto on the stove at the moment, 4 portions, to give me meals for the next few days. I still have 2 quinoa mixes in the fridge after lunch today so am keeping ahead. With planning this is fairly easy. We have a BBQ tomorrow at the English pub but as everyone knows I don't eat meat I will have one of my meals before we go and just drink water whilst there.
Well done on the weight loss Rob and mum. Feels good doesn't it?

De- caffeinated coffee is only as good as the process used for removing it, and the quality of the coffee used to start with. You may have to try a few brands to see if you prefer one over another. Bit like "full fat" coffee you settle on a brand that you like.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

I am unsure about decaf as it has chemicals in place of the caffeine. Have decided to do without it for the first phase. Once I am on phase two I may have a breakfast coffee, but that will be all.

Hi Aly, it is always great encouragement when you can feel the weightloss in your clothes.  For me so far the weightloss is not particularly visible but am happy to see it on the scales nonetheless. Can you share your recipes for brown rice risotto and quinoa with us please?  I have not yet used any rice or full oats (just oat cakes) as I have lacked any inspiration of what to do with them.

Good luck at the pub tomorrow – if the veggie sides are in keeping with the diet I guess that is always an option to go for if you get the munchies.

They are from the Harcombe recipe book, although the rice dish I have been doing for years. I am just heading out for a few hours but will try to post the recipes once home. If not then tomorrow morning.

Brown rice risotto base. Serves 4 From Harcombe recipe book

2 tblsp olive oil
1 onion finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
400g short grain brown rice
100ml dry white wine (leave out if on phase 1)
Approx. 1.5 litres veg stock
1tsp salt
Freshly ground black pepper.

Fry onion and garlic in oil in big fry pan until soft. Add rice and stir until coated in oil. Add wine , if using, and allow to be absorbed. Add stock ladle at a time, allowing it to be absorbed.(I throw everything in and stir it frequently). You can then add any veg you want. I used red, yellow and green pepper today and a tin of chopped tomatoes. You can also add any herbs you like, I use herbs de Provence.

Quinoa serves 4 from Harcombe

750ml veg stock
3-4 sprigs of thyme
200g quinoa
2 tblsp olive oil
1 red onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 aubergine, diced
1 courgettes, chopped
1 red pepper, deseeded and chopped
200g cherry toms
200g tin toms
2 tblsp Tom purée
Salt and pepper

Place stock, thyme and quinoa in saucepan, bring to boil, cover and simmer about 20 mins. Heat oil in frypan and stir fry onion, garlic, aubergine, courgettes and pepper until slightly blackened. Add cherry toms and cook until skins start to burst. When quinoa is cooked drain any left over stock and remove thyme. Place quinoa in oven proof dish. Top with veg and tinned toms and mix together. Cover with foil and bake in oven (375f 190c gas 5) for 30 mins. You could add some goats or feta cheese if not phase 1,

Hope you like it Rob

Hi Aly,

Thank you for these recipes.  I shall be trying both.  The rice one first as I have to hunt down quinoa again and that is best done in the week when I am in town.  I had heard you can make risotto style dishes with rice types other than the Arborio/Carnaroli/Vialone Nano varieties but have never tried it and am keen to give it a go.  Quinoa I love (both as a 'sweet' and as a savoury ingredient).

Thanks again for posting these up.

wave  The big weigh was this morning and I am so happy to report that I have lost 9lbs.  I am so very pleased.  Mind you those of you who have met me know I have such a lot to lose, but what a brilliant start.  And the best thing of all is that I feel good, so much better, not so sluggish and have much more energy.  Just about to have a cup of coffee with a little milk, but going to try and stick to the decaff when possible.
