When I first lived in Nottingham the green grocers almost all sold "blues" in season--blewitts.

That was lucky Val, did they taste good?

They certainly did, TA, and there was another mushroom, too - the Parasol - this was about 8 inches (20cms) in diameter - a meal in itself.

This picture shows a guy holding a parasol mushroom - just to give you an idea of its size.

Our one closed down earlier this year - shame, eh?

Well, I saw a green grocer's shop about an hour ago... no grocers because Wednesday is early closing....I was on my way home from watering P's greenhouse and harvesting tomatoes. I did freeze some of them for him. whistle

Wow Val, that is some mushroom!  Sorry to hear about your GG.  Ours closed years ago. We have Asian ones but their produce is not exactly fresh.  Lucky you Barbara, I hope he continues to flourish.

I'll try that again!

We also have a wholefood shop that has fresh organic veg, and a local food market that has some fruit and veg. All within 5 minutes walk! And I don't use them much because we grow our own. doh

wave  There is quite a good green grocer in Dunoon,  but I have my fish van who also sells fruit and veg come round once a week to my house.  It is very good produce and I couldn't do without him.  smile

A few years ago, we had a delivery of some mushroom compost for the veg patch, and discovered that wood blewits (picture here) were growing amongst it! An edible delicacy for us " the 'full English' was made a little special!

They look familiar, I wonder if they can be confused with anything else? what_the_heck

Sounds like a plan Janet, might even manage to get some photos for that one
