I am getting the bug for making preserves, after someone left a bottle of Tesco red grape and blackcurrant presse after a party I decided to try making it into a jelly. all I did was heat it and add 1lb of jam sugar with added pectin to a pint of liquid and voilà I have some gorgeous jelly. Has anyone else made jelly or jams out of anything similar and had a good result? I am keen to try more if you have any ideas.
Hi Janie
welcome
I suppose it will work with anything like that, and if it doesn't set, you can water it down a little more and use it as a syrup on things like porridge, rice pudding, yoghurt etc. (which is what I did with my first batch of rosehips the other year) - since then I've decided the syrup is better than the jelly and always make syrup. I made some pomegranate and something(can't remember what) jelly the other year from a carton of pomegranate juice, that was really lovely
How did you do the grape juice Penny? I have found making juices with a steamer means rich syrupy drinks rather than that made with a juicer and less mess too as you siphon it off straight into sterilised warm jars and seal. Last for ages then.
