While Danny has been beavering away with the blog software and setting up the forum, I have been writing a book - The Cottage Smallholder Book of Preserves.
The blog is my online cookbook but unless my laptop is in the kitchen I have to print out the recipes and then they get lost and it's all a bit of a palaver. Also I can't keep supper a secret as Danny's desk is just beside the printer.
So this little book is as much for me as for anyone else.
If all goes well we will be launching the book at the beginning of November.
Will look forward to seeing that. Cottage Smallholder is always my first port of call when preserving!! In fact only this morning you have saved me from a Crab apple and chilli jelly disaster, when I overset the mix and had to look up help, as always there you were to the rescue, and now I think we are saved!! Keep up the good work!!
Wonderful!
We can't have enough books on preserves* - I love comparing all the recipes. But it's often the tried and tested ones on Cottage Smallholder that stand out as the best 🙂
* Must get an extra bookshelf so they are handy in the kitchen, or maybe the bedroom!
Maths again (sigh!) the answer's the same as last time!
Hello, seahorse, and thank you for joining in our forum.
The book is still a neat idea and Fiona did a lot of groundwork in late summer. i think it is something that we will progress in the background - a little each week - so that it is ready when we find the right publisher in 2010.
Fiona has a few new recipes up her sleeve and a new "wrapper" story for each one. It is fun drafting it and it will be a good read too . . . eventually!
Never knowingly underfed
I thought I'd posted something on this about a week ago, but I must have been halucinating again.
I was very exciting at the thought of this book, as I am quite a fan of homemade preserves. I nearly bought margeritte patten's book just before chrstmas, but restrained myself.
A friend of mine self publishes books through a thing called diadem, which prints copies as people order them, which is better for't planet as well as for't bank balance. Might this be an option for yous guys?
Perhaps other CSH themed recipe books could be added to the range at later dates? I know I'd want copies, and would give copies to various friends and family also. Soon you will take over the world!
Intolerance will not be tolerated.
Thanks for your supportive words and ideas, Rae.
That diadembooks web site is indeed interesting - that was a useful tip. I suppose we have notions of a series like you described but getting the first one completed is the pain barrier to be overcome. We will get there eventually!
Maybe you have a future as an agent?
Never knowingly underfed
Danny, my husband published his book with Lulu.com. Same idea as Diadem. With Lulu, it's possible to get it listed with major book databases, which means a) booksellers can order it when your hordes of fans ask for it, and b) it will be listed at Amazon (UK/US etc.). If you go for this, let me know, because my husband discovered various gotchas which delayed the Amazon listings. If he'd known about them in advance the whole process would have been much quicker.
Here it is -- all his own work!
