I've just been searching for a conversation I had on here to do with one of my CDWM events, and it took forever to find it, so as this is an ongoing event for me, I've decided to start a topic for future reference for me.
Anyway, my next one is this coming Monday, 4 of us. I've splashed out on a rather gorgeous looking piece of fillet steak for the main, which will be a Beef Wellington.
No idea really yet on starter or sweet, as one of the friends is dieting (and I should be) I had thought of either a massive salad or roasted veg with the main, for dessert I'm switching between a pavlova (using weight watchers extra thick cream) or lots of fresh fruit and a chocolate fodue for dipping.
As usual, I'm looking for inspiration from you guys.
You're all not being very helpful this week ! you are all normally full of ideas, so I've had to think formyself this week, tut.
Current plans are:
Tuscan salad - artichokes/italian ham/pasta/olives/sundried tomatoes thingy
Beef Weelington with roasted vegetables and a red wine gravy
Probably a chocolate fondue with lots of fruit and homemade biscotti
Sorry Jan, not been about all week. The menu sounds perfect (as long as the dieter can resist the choc fondue! lol). How about making some kind of fruit sauce to dip the fruit pieces into as an alternative to the choc, or a sorbet to go with the fruit and biscotti?
Val, hope you're feeling a bit better now.
learning to love veg…..except celery :-O
Sounds a good idea, Sue, and thank you, yes, feeling better now, especially after spending the day yesterday with all our family. Brilliant day.
Jan, I like the idea of a pavlova - not quite so 'fattening' as a chocolate fondue?
(But then, I've always liked pavlova, so I'm a bit biased !!
Thanks Girls. Hmm, the fruity sauce might be an idea, I was thinking that with the fondue, Sarah could choose to dip or not dip, and I could easily make a fruity sauce for dipping too. Could still go for the pavlova too, think I'll shoot off to the shops and see what fruit they have in, then make my decision.
Was a great evening, thanks Val, everything went swimmingly apart from I forgot to serve the red wine gravy with the main (tut)
Did the salad starter, with homemade 3 cheese bread
Beef Welly (deliciously rare, actually still blue in the middle - perfect) for main with Roasted Veg (swede, carrot, parsnip, fennel, shallot, celeriac) and a healthier version of potato dauphinaise (using ww cream and milk instrad of double cream)
Did the pavlova for pud, with mango, kiwi & pomegranate with some of my rumtopf sauce and ww thick cream.
Realised about 3pm that I didn't have any white wine in, but fortunately they brought some with them (thank god)
Just scoffing leftovers now
