Hi everyone, born and bred in Yorkshire, I have spent half my life in Denmark. Got homesick for the hills and moors so I went North to central Sweden four years ago.
Here I have 60 acres of rough grazing and forest. I live in an scarcely populated area, I think there are more bears around me than people
I have been very interested in self- sufficiency for all my adult life. I have two fjord horses and 10 sheep. Next week they will be joined by two in-calf heifers.
I spend most of my time looking after my animals , my small garden, chopping wood and working with wool.
As I have no television I spend a lot of time in the dark winter nights corresponding with other small holders around the world so I am looking forward to participating in "The Cottage Smallholder"
You said those magic words "working with wool". Welcome indeed!
Shut up, I'm counting
Welcome Renée, I don't think we have had anyone from Sweden here before. I lived there in 1970, in Lessebo, Smalland. It is a magical country and I look forward to hearing more about your life there.
Aren't Ray & Helle from Denmark/Sweden?
(Or have I got it wrong .... ? )

Magical is indeed the word
I was just across the border from Småland at the weaving exhibition in Glimåkra, (the home of the weaving looms) last weekend.
It was still Autumn there so I got this photo
Yesterday I took this view from a local village hall where I was spinning for the All Saints market
It is surprisingly mild for the time of year. We have only had snow once so far this season
Thank you for your warm welcomes. What were you doing in Lessebo Toffee apple?
Toni, sorry I was wrong - the last time I saw their names was indeed about 3 weeks ago, but it was a quote from ?smokers cottage? and it was here. Reference the pheasant recipe. My mistake!
Ooh welcome! I look forward to hearing about your ventures. I moved to rural Normandy and am trying to become self sufficient. It is a steep learning curve and I am open to suggestions ( keep it clean please!). That is a lot of land you have. And bears! I have wild boar around me.
Trying to enjoy life as it is
