Hi everybody. My name is Danny and I am an . . .
IT support and teasmaid service for Fiona (fn) who owns and rules this site 🙂
I am from the south of Ireland and have lived in England for the past dozen years. My roots are firmly established in this neck of the woods, especially since fn permitted me to grow potatoes this year!
We have made many changes to the site this week. This forum was added at 15:00 on Mon 21-Sep-2009
Please Post a Reply to this topic and introduce yourself, no matter how briefly.
Welcome on board, and delighted to have the pleasure of your company.
Danny

Maureen and I live in South Devon. Married with five children, four grown up and one still at home. First grandchild will be arriving in October.
I help my husband run design side of our small development company and would love to return to a more self sufficient lifestyle. Used to have chickens, geese, sheep, donkey and large veggie patch but unfortunately had to give it all up owing to becoming prime carer for my father. Have since moved down to Devon and although we own a beautiful old farmhouse it did not come with any land attached and only a very small garden so no space for any of the above. Making the most of the local farm shops, markets and hedgerows and trying to buy local wherever possible.
Busy making lots of chutney and jams at the moment although have to keep going back to the day job!
Cannot seem to get my pic on the site despite it saying it has downloaded - what am I doing wrong?
Maureen
Hi, Maureen, and so pleased that we got you pic working.
Just so that everybody else knows how we solved it - best check out this post:

The forum system is new to me also, and I do not know all the answers yet.
Beautiful photo. More appealing than my retro shot!
Welcome, Nettie, and thank you very much for your very kind comments about this site. We love doing it and especially the banter and exchange of views
Hello, clatterpark - really delighted that you have been reading here for a long time. We appreciate your taking the time and effort to introduce yourself. Well done!

Ohh, this is like AA on the TV or something. Must make this good.

My name is Sarah, but I go by the name SOL. I have been reading this blog for 2 years now and love how people come together here.
Presently I have an allotment (not doing so well) and a small potager in our back garden.
I cant grow carrots or tomatoes very well, but beans, legumes and grapes I have no problems with.
Joanna and I live in Latvia in a modernised Soviet era apartment and we have just agreed to lease some land from a friend of ours which is around 33 acres. We now have the tractor and some implements and just arranging for a local joiner to make a double layered polytunnel (we need it the Latvian winters can be cold and long). We are doing this gradually and experimenting as we go along, hope to grow potatoes on the land next year and have tomatoes in the polytunnel and continue with our long allotment plot outside our home. I love the recipes, the feedback and the snippets of life on the smallholding.
Hi,I'm Kate. I'm 29, originally hale from Yorkshire but lived in Durham for the last 11 years. I'm married with a 3mth old daughter and I'm making the most of maternity leave making jam and chutney before returning to the real world of secondary school teaching!
I came across this blog through a Google search last year looking for an Apple Chutney recipe and I've been a firm follower ever since.
Just 20mins ago I mixed my first batch of raspberry vodka using the Cottage Smallholder recipe - eagerly awaiting the results!!!!
Hello, my name is Celia (aka Magic Cochin) and I stumbled upon Cottage Smallholder when searching the web for a chutney recipe.
I live just a few miles south of Fiona and Danny's establishment, in what Danny has labelled 'The Cochinery' which I share with my pickle and chutney loving husband, Cliff, two cats and six hens. We grow vegetables and fruit in our inside-out walled garden and as I'm a member of the Heritage Seed Library, my plot is stuffed full of peas and beans with strange names and unexpected coloured pods!
We have been privileged to have met Fiona and Danny in 'real life' and they are just like the characters in their blog
I'm looking forward to regularly popping over to the forum to get some great foodie tips and wise advice (and to occasionally stir things up).
Gosh! is that the time, I'll have to leap out of bed and get over to my studio…
See you all again soon!
(Danny – you're asking me to do sums!)
Sarah is my name. I found the Cottage Smallholder site a few years ago...probably from searching for Min Pins and Gardens on line! I am a self-employed garden designer (working in Portland, Oregon, USA) who shares a garden with two Min Pin dogs. I grow a lot of our veggies in our garden, and have a serious preserving habit. I have used many of Fiona & Danny's recipes and am now working on perfecting my sloe gin!
Hello, my name is Sara.
I latched on to the Cottage Smallholder a few months after Fiona started it. I haven't posted many comments on the blog but hope to change that now!
I'm from Wales where I live with my husband, toddling son, a dog and many cats. I took on an allotment about 6 months ago and am enjoying the small amount of homegrown veggies already!
I haven't used all of the recipes from the blog as I'm vegan, but there are a couple that have been very useful!
Well done on your ever expanding empire fn & Danny!
Jackie and I am a regular on Cottage Smallholder, inasmuch as I am a regular anywhere. I live in Wilthsire with my husband Neil and two daughters who were until last week home educated and now go to a tiny christian school, which is a bit odd for me. We rent a house and with a biggish garden, and stables and turnout for the ponies and goats, and we also rent another ten acres for sheep, and where I used to grow veg for a box scheme. OH dear it's all sounding a bit muddled. The cat's just jumped on the piano and frightened the living daylights out of me so I think I'll call it a day.
