I guess I was Danny, I was over the age of 40 before I got my first car.  Oh the smell of Castrol R at a bike race.  I smelled something similar last week in our lovely little town, someone rode a Velocette through and I swear I could smell it, sweet memories...(dreamy look on my face now).

I'll try that again!

Oo, that has set me off – Phil Read, Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini – all superb riders.  I used to love the 'outfits' best, (motorbike and side-car combo)   mmm, – Chris Vincent  I think I shall sleep well tonight, trying to remember the names of all the people I loved to watch.

PS, my little smartcar is named Vincent, for Gene Vincent, Vincent van Gogh, and Vincent motorcycles.

I'll try that again!

I am not a biker and never have been but I totally understand the evocative aroma of fuel and oil. As in the whiff of aviation fuel and jet exhausts at an airport immediately triggers memories of past holiday breaks.

There is a new building development going on a hundred yards from us. When the wind wafts tractor fumes in our direction (hot engine oil smells and exhaust fumes), it takes me back in a millisecond to my childhood days and threshings where the machines were hooked up to a Massey Ferguson or Fordson tractor with long drive belts.

Never knowingly underfed

Oh, TA, all from our era - our m/cycle club used to run sprints at Duxford airfield - wonderful times - how about:

Fritz Scheidigger, Helmut Fath, Max Deubel for some combos.

Memories. Ok

Steady MOS!  Deep breath.  Big_Laugh  You are right though, you had to have been there.

Yes, I did get to see the chaps in their underwear - walking around the Paddock after the race they'd all be getting out of their leathers.  No huge trailers with showers in those days.

I'll try that again!

BS, we cross posted - again!  Ah, you've set me off again, yes, I remember those; I was just thinking about Angel Nieto, quite a large chap who mostly rode 50cc bikes to victory.  I shall have to go back to the vintage bike site for more inspiration.

I'll try that again!
