In the past I've made truffles along with my cheese biscuits as gifts - the truffles always get good reviews, but they're so labour-intensive and messy to make.  Having earlier seen a clip of Nigella making chocolate pistachio fudge (husband was watching her [I wonder why?!big_laughponder], personally I don't like Her Royal Smugness, although do like some of her recipes), it's so easy and, more importantly, a lot less faffing about and far less messy.  So will have a go at that instead....can't believe I've never made fudge before!

Just ordered a few books from the book people, they have a deal on at the mo, for all the river cottage handbook series for £25, so ordered them and a couple of others, one of them is about sweet treats, so might have some more good ideas when I have a look through

I have it all the time, either they won't deliver here or they charge exorbitant delivery prices.

Finished my first homemade C gift last night.  Bought a 100g ball of a German yarn called Frilly for £3.75p at a discount store.  Have made a ruffled scarf for a friend.  As I liked the results, I bought two more balls today to make a scarf for myself and another for my son's mil.  The yarn is about 1cm wide on the ball but stretches out to resemble lace.  It was a bit fiddly to knit with at the beginning but it's very effective once you get the hang of it.  Found a pattern on the internet and it only took a few hours to complete - just 8 stitches per row on UK size 5 needles.  Simple to make but looks good.  Just got to hem the two ends now.  I'm likely to be doing more knitting over the next couple of months.  I'm waiting to see a consultant and will almost certainly need an op which will entail at least 6 weeks rest afterwards.  I can't sit still all day, it's not in my nature, but knitting will keep me occupied along with checking in on CSH.
