Today I got my anti-smoking prescription from the pharmacy. eeek Tomorrow is the day I start to stop. I have patches and an inhalator and am rather nervous and rather excited.  Any help or advice from ex-smokers will be very gratefully read.  I've been told that I should think of it as stopping for today and to think that every day.  Wish me luck please.

I'll try that again!

Thanks everyone.  Seth, I gave up when my daughter was born and stayed clear for 5 and a half years; made some new friends who both smoked and the temptation to 'just try one' was the push down the slippery slope.  I had hypnotherapy about eight years ago and lasted for just three months, this time I must not fail.  Well done to you and your wife for doing it.  I'll let you all know how I get on.

I'll try that again!

Good on you, TA, and top marks for publicising the Big Push. rose

We are all behind you.

Would you be up for publishing a daily diary? Like how you felt at different times of the day, what events or routines brought on the craving and how you pushed it aside . .

No worries if you prefer to keep it private and personal.

None whatsoever. big_hug big_hug big_hug

You know, I never notice ads anyway, unless they appear in the middle of the screen, and my pop-up blocker deals with most of those.

Good luck with stopping smoking, TA!  I did it cold turkey 21 years and 9 days ago, and never looked back (I also gave up chocolate, sweets, cakes, crisps and sugar in my tea and coffee at the same time, just to avoid the weight gain - lost half a stone in the first 6 weeks, ha ha ha).

wave  Oh I'm so sorry TA.  I wanted to reply and encourage you welldone  last night but my internet access went down, probably due to the horrific rain.

I wish you the very best.  I stopped on the 12th August 2002.  I had smoked for 33 years.  monster   I had tried patches before then and found I relied on them too much and I could have a sneaky fag!!!!!!  So on that momentous date, I just stopped.  I never thought I could do it with no help, but I just took it a day at a time.  Each day was an achievement and each day it got easier.  But I will admit it was real HELL for a good while.

Unfortunately I couldn't stop eating all the things that elrohana stopped eating as I didn't eat them in the first place.  I put on a lot of weight which I have never managed to lose.  I don't think that will be a problem for you though.

Remember this though TA.  We can all only do our best.  Keeping busy with your hands and your mind will help.

Do you have a real incentive?  Mine was the imminent  birth of my first grandchild.

Good luck my dear.  Tell OH to give you lots of these  big_hug  even if you get a bit grumpy.  big_laugh

big_hug Thanks for the support, everyone; I wanted it to be public so that I have more of an incentive.  As for the diary, what I really want to do is just try to ignore it.  I will, however, tell you that this morning when I awoke, I put on my first patch then made my tea, during which time I would normally have a ciggie as a 'timer' for tea to brew, I opened the window as usual but just did some deep breathing. I've had two puffs of the inhalator, far fewer than recommended, so am hopeful that the way I currently feel will remain with me.

Lyn, that was a good thing to do, stopping and giving up the fattening things.

Danuta, I heard on the radio about the trouble with broadband in Scotland and the North of England, glad it's back on now.  I think my hands and mind will continue to be occupied by typing and responding to posts here!  whistle  My incentive is to save my health!  Well done on your achievement in stopping the evil weed!

I'll try that again!
