Hi all I'm planning making a 12v solar fan powered ventilation system for my greenhouse / glasshouse
My plan is to use a 12v car battery
a 12v computer fan,
A Thermostatic switch

A 12v solar trickle charger for the car battery
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Watt-12v-Volt-Solar-Pa.....4347wt_905
The greenhouse has a automatic opening window, which will open at 15 to 25 C
The fan will come on at about the same temp, is this a practical setup?
Thanks
Jake
Welcome to the forum Jake.
Bit technical for my brain but there some inventive bods here who will be able to help. You are obviously into self sufficiency and it would be good to hear a bit about you. There is an introduction page you could post on. Lots of us are doing for ourselves and not just in the UK. Hope you will stick around
Trying to enjoy life as it is
How big is the greenhouse?- a computer fan is very small, so not sure if that will be enough to ventilate it. I am sure the set up will function- depends on what wattage the solar power panel can give out- have one on my caravan to trickle charge the battery to keep the alarm functional, but at times even this is not enough to hold the charge. I think mine is 15 W from memory.
Are we having fun yet? I am!

@ Toffeeapple ......Hope this makes it bit clearer
1 fan making air go inn top right corner
1 fan making air go out bottom left corner
Thus creating air movement as well as flow and ventilation
May be able to make it cheaper by using the auto window to become the switch also, and just using a push switch
Try and make something and post back later in the week
Interesting idea, Jake. I am less technical with electrics than Martin (Liquineer) is but I understand your objective. This is a question for somebody with a bit of an electrical engineering background who may understand the flow rates and power consumption of fans.
I guess at worst your set-up may not be effective enough and you might have to go for a bigger fan even at a slower RPM.
Do please update us as you make progress.
