Many of you are experiencing this problem but I am not.
In order to get expert help, I need to know what combination of devices and browsers you have. Just the people who are having the problem.
This is my screen when writing a new post.

don't have that , I have the same on my kindle and my dell computer , kindle runs on android , firefox on the dell

Thanks, all.
I will have to take the site down and strip it back to the bare essentials to see if something on the blog is interfering with the forum.
That will be early Monday morning, so expect some disruption.
Toni - I will also check the profile problem and some other buttons that are not working as they should.
Maybe some early bird forumite from the people above will be available to help with testing the missing icons on the post writing screen.

Haha - well, they wrote the forum software, Val, so they should know best (I guess).
We have tracked down the element of the blog site that is causing the problem but not what exactly it's doing.
I can't just remove that element because it's too important for the blog.
